Chin,
I spoke with Polyp Lab about this product for acros and this is mainly for soft and LPS (filter feeding) corals. Not that it's harmful for acros but it wasn't really designed to benefit them. Quote:

They did have something on their site saying they were working on a food for SPS but I notice its gone now.

I know where a chunk of my 400$ is going that's for sure. I haven't really heard one bad thing from anyone about it on here yet either. Sounds like a good product!
|
We are very glad everyone is enjoying the product. A lot of work went into developing that product. The goal was to create a food as nutritious, palatable and water-stable as live food without the cost/hassle of culturing.
Chin: Your acro sliming is a natural reaction when they are fed. They are mesenterial filaments that they will secret in an effort to trap as much particulate food as possible. although the slime you notice when you touch them is likely a stress reponse and not a sign of finger-eating corals =) Christyf5, Wait a couple weeks. The guys at the lab at putting the finishing touches on that SPS product that I can only describe as... incredible. Good luck with everyone's reef! |

reef roids
does anyone think/have experience with this as a food for reluctant sun corals
I have a black sun coral which as u know doesn't like light, usually have to turn off main lights and just use actinic to get them to let their feeding tentacles out.Not with roids !! they'll be ready to feed under full lighting.Though mine have always ben easy to target feed with frozen live foods. |
Any effects to clams?

well i ordered my big bottle to give it a try-- sounds like a fabulous product!
ps. Dave at polyp lab-- fantastic customer service! very impressed! |
Unfortunately my free sample never arrived. :( Not sure if it never got shipped or the mailman lost another package.
Fortunately I was given a sample from a friend. Wow! I sure didn't expect what I saw. My large finger leather looked like a million pulsing xenias and the hammer mucused it up and sucked it in like spaghetti. Most corals seemed to enjoy as well, but those 2 had me in awe. |
Okay... nothing but excellent remarks keep coming in. I am ordering mine tonight.

I recieved an e-mail a while back saying my sample was being mailed, but I never got it? Oh well

Hey guys,
We are on the bring of release another product and we have been EXTREMELY busy. I would kindly request that anyone who previously requested a sample of Reef-roids but did not receive it in the mail, please re-send your address to polyplab@gmail.com (RobbAdams, Scavenger, etc. etc.) We sent out over 250 samples and it is possible that a few of the addresses got lost in the pile. I personally apologize for anyone who requested for a sample but did not receive it (I was the person who was supposed to send them out) Regards, Dave |
well i grabbed a container from oa last week and tried it twice. i have a 90 gallon lps tank with many different acans, blastos, chalice, frogspawn, hammer, bubble, diplo, zoo's... i didn't notice any initial amazing results like others have experienced. some of the corals accepted it, other just wouldn’t open for it the fish all seemed to like it. the acans reacted and started to feed and some zoo's reacted but the tank didn’t wig out and go into a feeding frenzy. i feed a variety of other foods regularly so that might be why some people are getting a reaction if they don’t feed their tank to often. i guess my results may be more long term (when the container is empty) as to how effective the food is for me. hopefully i can keep my acans fat and colourfull with it.
i should also add that i didn’t observe any weird side effects like algae outbreaks after feeding like i did gp's. i wonder if this food might be effective in raising fish fry with? i know chin had a hell of a time when he was raising his last batch of bangaii's. |
Just ordered mine, finally. I am very excited to try it out... sounds very promising.
Bought myself some more LPS corals over the past month as well.. should be cool! I'll post back my results as well.. |
I have been feeding my 150 with reef roids for the past 1 1/2 weeks...my gorgonian, open brains, frogspawn and hammer have all responded by noticeably expanding more. Definitely like the product! I have beenfeeding a teaspoon every two days...how much is everyone using and how frequently? A teaspoon even seems like alot with all the pumps off!
|
Okay, recieved my Reef-Roids last night and fed the tank for the first time. I just used a small little chunk of roids in the 20g.. turned the pumps off, and target fed a few areas (frogspawn, hammer, rics, zoos, anemone, clam) Just to see the reactions.... then I dumped the rest of the batch in the tank and turned pumps back on. My observations after the first feed:
Frogspawn - Slimed up, then shrunk up about half hour later (eating?) Hammer - No reaction. [perhaps I didn't get enough roids onto it] Rics - My blue ric's started puffing up in a couple areas. My green Yuma did not appear to have a reaction. Zoos - Not all zoos ate this stuff, but my bullseyes closed up completely around the food.. pretty neat. Anemone - As soon as the roids hit the tank you could see the tentacles go all crazy trying to catch the food, but when I spot fed... the thing just tried closing right up .. again, pretty neat. Clam - You could tell it tried to eat some, it closed up and re-expanded. My fish went pretty nuts as well... clowns were just swimming all over trying to suck it all up... my watchman goby went bonkers, trying to steal my pipette I used out of my hands.. he literally stuck his whole mouth over the syringe haha. All in all, not too bad for the first feed! I was pretty impressed with the reactions, so long-term use should be pretty interesting. Looking forward to seeing long-term results :D |
