I'm really impressed by the work you've done there. Cramming all that stuff under that tank is some nice work. (I can't believe you've got a Ca reactor in there!) Love the look of the cube and I'm looking forward to your next update.

How many microns is that pre-filter sock you are using? In my tank I have a 200 micron but I find that it plugs up very quickly. But the water is sure clear when the bag is fresh. How do you clean it? I let mine dry out and then take a vacuum to it but I am sure there must be a better way.

Snoop Dog 12-17-2005 08:37 PM

100 micron bag. I just spray it with the hose or masage it in the sink untill it is some what clean. then I throw it in the washing machine. With no soap.

All in all things went well today. The Dart has a funny noise and the input and output connections have small leaks Ill have to fix in the AM. Not sure about the Dart, well see if it breaks in and the noise stops, or if there is an issue with the pump. the actually motor of the pump is surprisingly quit, so Im not sure what the noise is?

All in all Im happy with the flow, there is a constant movment of mass water around everything, nothing is being sprayed at , and the top of the sand just slightly moves, but is not disturbed.

Ill be sure to post more as the tank progresses, after all the setup is only the beggining!!!

nice set up Snoop

Ruth 12-18-2005 05:32 PM

I love how you have your lights set up. I will be looking to do something similar on my cube that I will be setting up .......sometime. I am slowly collecting what I think I need. I have 2 luminarc penants that I would love to set up the way you have it. Did you build it yourself and if so can you post more close ups of it so I can steal your idea?

Snoop Dog 12-18-2005 06:33 PM

Ruth,

My friend is a steel metal fabricator, he made it for me, Ill post some close ups later on, it must weigh 80lbs, as the top is 1/4 inch steel plate, but itll last a long time .

muck 12-18-2005 07:43 PM

I love the red bucket brigade.. where'd you pick them up Snoop?

Ruth 12-18-2005 08:00 PM

So do you think your friend want to make another friend. Not really:lol: Actually welders and fabricators are like behinds up here - everyone has one - the trick will be to find someone that has the time to fabricate something for me!

wayner 12-18-2005 11:06 PM

Very Nice Snoopy!, love cubes!, really like the stand too!, those micron bags, do they stop micro-bubbles or are they just for polishing the water and picking up crap from the return., never used one, just wondering.

Thanks

Snoop Dog 12-19-2005 04:58 AM

The micron bags do a bit of both, but the main purpose is to polish the water, they realley collect alot of crap from your water.

I got the red buckets from my work. we have a few thousand of them :)

Well, its been 2 weeks since I started the tank and It was time to move some of my corals into their new tank. Everything seems to be running just fine. Ive cunstructed as many shelves as possible out of the live rock and am looking forward to stocking the tank with SPS Shortley. Finished the doors and the stand, Just need to complete some mods on my reactor to make it fit.

You should be very proud of the work you have done. DIY is very rewarding in the final product.

keep up the great work.

Delphinus 01-01-2006 04:51 PM

You have two overflow pipes; do they join together in a T underneath the tank and then into the sump - or do they individually plumb to the sump? Could you post some pictures of that when you get a chance?

rusty 01-01-2006 05:41 PM

I don't know about everyone else, but I think this should be moved to the tank of the month forum, Sweet set up dog!

They dont join together, they 45 at the bottom, then slowly angle into the sump.
