lol

Gems are going for about $800 south of the border right now.

rsisvixen 09-19-2017 06:48 PM

In the scheme of things thats not even expensive in the pet industry.
Rare Arowanas will go for way more, certain species of parrots cost way more.
Pedigreed show dogs can go for more than that. People that want the rare, different or collectible will always be willing to pay the price.

If there wasn't a market they wouldn't be bringing the supper expensive fish in.

You can also find them for 2k in Canada, but all in importing one yourself would be less as well.

I've got no problem with some fish being worth $3500. I've seen some angels in that price range. Out of my budget but some fish are expensive for a variety of reasons. My issue with this is its way way way above retail cost. Even before the recent gem tang price drop the rare times I saw them in Lfs they were $2200-2500. Granted if you can afford 2500 you can afford 3500 when it comes to expensive fish but this just seems like gouging.

Just because that's what they are asking didn't mean that's what tell take. Especially if you haven't special ordered it. I made a fair offer on the candy basselet and the accepted. So we font always have to fell gouged. Just because you can afford it dosnt mean paying too much is okay.

the shitty part of buying an expensive fish is having it being bullied by a $5 fish thats a bigger PITA to catch

The second Candy Basslet is now sold. He is on hold for someone. Now there is only the $3500 Gem Tangs avaiable. Look nice but would never have guessed the Gems value. Maybe its all in a name.

But birds and dogs don't just up and die the way pricey fish do ...
I think the last time I heard of someone spending this kind of money on something the size of a thumb drive was, well, when they bought a thumb drive way back in the day ... and it was probably only 256k

kengeroo 09-21-2017 02:06 PM

Mines just starting to venture out,,, seems a little braver when it's dark out..

Oh I don't know about that, some birds are exceptionally hard to keep, and some are so sensitive they'll drop dead at the slightest fright.
Not to mention most species are on the cites list to various degrees so you need import permits, export permits, vet checks before and after entering the country, QT for 30 days etc, etc. Costs certainly add up when all is said and done.

Most expensive fish I have ever seen was a fresh water fish from the Amazon I can’t remember the name of it but I definitely remember the price tag it was bought for $8900

Personally I can’t see spending more than a hundred bucks on a fish but each to their own

kengeroo 09-21-2017 10:49 PM
