love your tank
Hi,
I have read all the posts about your tank quite closely as I am going to shut down my 100 gal corner tank due to leakage. Then I going for a 6ft tank like yours but 72"x22"x22". I have already decided on black sand and it's nice to see you using it in your reef. Could you itemize your equipment and what brands you used? It would be really helpful. Did you drill only one hole for intake and outtake? My tank has two. After all, water has to go in and then out. I would like to have 2 holes in the corner and hide the pipes with an curved overflow box. Does that make sense? Do I make sense? AquaAddict |

Iv been using black sand for just over 2 years and love it. Takes a bit more work to keep it looking good though because you see every little spec of rock or coral or whatever happens to be on the sand. As far as equipment goes, I don't know the brands of half the stuff I have. I have an Apex running my main components, I have a 5 bulb Aqua Medic halide fixture, an ATI skimmer rated for 400-500 Gallons, I am currently just using my old MP10s from my 72 gallon and they have actually amazed me at how much water they can move. I will be switching to the gyres though in the near future. Other than that its pretty basic, phosban reactor, chiller, and heater. As far as holes go it's in this thread that shows the hole drilling process used on my tank. I have a herbie overflow, so 2 holes for the overflow and 1 for the return. Hope this helps |

Looks sweet Nick

So i bought an exqusit wrasse. It was acting fine swimming around normally, i turn my back for a minute and look again and hes gome and havnt seen him since. That was about a week ago. Has anybody had this happen with an exquisit wrasse? Looked everywhere and he didnt jump out. So im not sure what to think.

Awesome looking set up, really like the look of the black sand!
How and what paint did you use for the stand? I have ano old cabinet I am setting up for a 29g long/shallow (40"l x14"w x12"h) and am wanting to paint it white, just not sure what type of paint or best way to apply, yours looks great! |
Thanks I appreciate it. I just used regular household paint nothing special. Tank has been down for 6 months so it's time to get back into it. Will post more photos once I get new sand in and rocks placed properly.

Hey Nick long time no talk, nice build and too bad about the neighbours upstairs and you having to take the tank down for 6 months, that must've sucked, glad to see you back at it again... Where did all your corals go?
|
Hey chris, thanks man, its on its way again. Its been awhile for me forsure but trying to get back into it. As far as my corals go, alot of them died during the shut down and transfer, and what didn't die was put into Ryans tank. ( Thanks Ryan). Ill post some updated pics soon, I have all of my remaining zoas and lps in the tank now, just waiting a bit until I add my sps.
