sump was about $300 and runs completely quiet and bubble free:) ive done sumps that make this look basic and simple , some of the crazy designs we have came up with customers have kept me on my toes lol :) more to come!! |
ok time to get the water lines on the island and waterfall and to fill this with water and take it for a test drive:)
for the island we were going to use 1/4" tubing but after going through all the trouble to install it all even hooked up to a mag 9 couldn't push water through it , an option was to use a dosing pump but they don't have a lot of flow so....we had to go with a slightly larger tubing at 3/8" diameter the lines are fed via a " tee " off the jebao 12000 and there are three lies in total for the island and one line for the water fall , this way by using a large return pump we had some extra umfff and set the flow rate properly:) once the lines were figured out we used some small pieces of pukani to cover them up and then some fijicrete and sand to hide it and make it not so notciable:) you can also get a better view of the epoxy basins we made for the island:) http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psaf49d106.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps266baccb.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps309d775b.jpg one line we decided to not have a basin and flows down into the water line: http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2076e279.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps41ddbf60.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...pse96495d1.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps304d13f1.jpg waterline neatly hidden down the backside of the island:) http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psc1f2e746.jpg it works:) http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps36147abb.jpg |

ok so fast forward through our cycle and we have a rough finished look , even a few first tester corals from our prop systems:)
light has now been mounted above and about this time hooked our doser to automate additives:) we have been carbon dosing vinegar since the first day water was added and have had no measurable No3 or P04 and to this day am still on my first batch of gfo :) gotta love nipping it in the butt right out the gate:) tank is being dosed 40ml of %5 white vinegar throughout a 24 hr period:) http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psbe1e61e8.jpg pay no attention to the ugly koralias there are rplaced by 2 x jebao rw-4 shortly:) http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9e80e103.jpg getting close to where we are today , tank still has a lot of corals to add but is coming along nicely :) we will post our stocking plans here next for corals and fish thanks for following!! |

and heres a video we took of how the tank looks at the moment:)
enjoy!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raiJ...ature=youtu.be |
its amazing how different taking a video from pictures as it shows the better details of the build.
And of course love the filling of corals |
It's really coming along, looks great. I wonder if there is like a beach crab or a plant or something you could add to the above water line exposed rocks might be another level of reef??

Thanks guys camera sucks at picking up the tanks beauty:) |
Mangroves came to mind but I thought they'd get to tall? Looking forward to what's coming.
(My zoos are all rocking, thanks again!) |
Quote:
If they anything like my mangroves I have now it's been 2 years and I'm at about a foot lol I have some ideas for the mangroves and if they become to tall I can trim them off , I did that with the ones I have now prob why they wont grow fast lol :) |
Wow nice build, filled it fast too. Can't wait to see the tank mature....
Great job! |
Finally getting around to catching up with this thread. WOW. That's looking killer ! Love the bromie aquascape !

enjoy:) |
Took some pics over the weekend and we will post them in the next few days but tank is on cruise control , our large maxima the one that had pinched mantle seems to have made a full recovery and back to his normal self after a few fresh water baths. All our gorgs we added have now finished doing there shedding from going to a new system and look great:)
A little while ago we had a mishap with the doser and I put the wrong cap on the vinegar bottle instead of an A I put a V on the Alk bottle so I thought it was vinegar ...stupid me set it up and was dosing Alk on a vinegar schedule while another pump was dosing Alk on its reg schedule , dkh went to 14 before we caught it but is now back down and problem rectified . We got a little stn on a couple acros but that has stopped so could have been worse :) We are going to be finishing the cabints over Xmas which we are going to be doing I think in stone if not some sort of tile :) Funny enough the loudest part of the system and the only thing that can even be heard is the jebao dc pump even on speed 3 it drives me nuts lol the enclosing of the stand should help though:) Will post pics soon as well another video:) |
Just read threw the whe thread and that is so AWESOME i love the idea of a waterfall. Just wondering if you have problems with crabs and snails climbing out?
Maybe i can come take a peak at it sometime soon and get some more corals as well :) Looking Great Ruth and Denny :p |
Glad you like it little buddy , so far we only have a Halloween hermit he stays down low but all the snails hang out of water all day which has been working great at keeping both the waterfall and island clean :) none on the floor yet but everyone keeps asking if the snails are OK out of water and I say they found their way there themselves lol
Swing by anytime buddy and check it all out , calgary should host a tank tours I'd gladly showoff the waterfall tank and zoanthids beds for anyone who would like to see them:) |

tank is crusing along well :)
lost our bannerfish though which wasnt a big surprise ive never had much luck with them before but was hoping it would be diff but alas it was not:( as well our squamosa over the last week has been shut down , i couldnt figure out why but was home most of the day today and found out the issue ....turns out our pair of neon gobies are eating him , they are attacking him every five mins so ill have to set up a small trap and get the little buggers out its not worth losing $800 in clams for $40 in fish lol on the plus side our large maxima tear drop on the right of the tank has recovered fully from the pinched mantle after some freshwater baths , and the gobies dont seem to be interested yet i the maximas only the squammie lol here are some pics , i need to invite someone over that has a better camera than my s5 does but till then it gets the job done:) (kien!!!) http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4df622e6.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps63475acf.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps56b83e1a.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps13c85f62.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psae11782a.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps83542940.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps90cafa4f.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps888f9ef7.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7814cc70.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2da0888d.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps68ef0cf0.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps15422ccf.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1b0f8175.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps922941ff.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6c4ad721.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psdba5bc29.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...pse9739e61.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9a9f8982.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6804eee9.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2128a712.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psdaa2f17f.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psd598eda1.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps69293db4.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psbc91dadc.jpg |
things are doing well , we added the rest of our ricordias puts us at close to 100 shrooms lol as well we added a very large sebae anemone to the family :) had to move the tube anemone to the back in the dark to make room for the sebae:)
rock is becoming covered in coraline and everything is healing nicely from the dosing going awol still at 40mls of vinegar and no readable nitrates or phosphates , still on original batch of gfo and the tank has only seen a couple water changes:) flow is a bit of a bitch but we are working on it , still have the koralia in there until we decide what top do :) here are some pics and a video coming once it loads:) http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps11c1ff95.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1baabd2f.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3dc59520.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psa03907e5.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3f89ebca.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0d5b36f8.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8e92237c.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psf5c63ed9.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psa7471bef.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps80864e02.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps17cb4089.jpg all blues on : http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1251a025.jpg |
Ruth I'm still in love with this tank, that being said your photos don't do the tank justice! Colors are SO much more vivid in real life.
When I come over next to grab another frag pack I will bring the Canon! |
Quote:
Oooeee please do bring along the canon, we could sure use your photography expertise ;ppp |
