I have noticed the corals in the back arent getting enough light from one set up and I am not getting growth in a lot of the shaded areas of the SPS. I was thinking of going to the ATI Sunpower 24" 8x24W fixture. The fixture is 17.5" wide leaving around 15" for actual bulb length, my tank being 18" wide if I hang it semi low I shouldn't have much light spill. As for the corals, I am blasting the radions at 85 percent so there shouldn't be an intensity issue with the 8 bulb setup, of course lighting acclimation will be done to be safe. Anyone want to pitch in some advice or direction?

I ran a 6 bulb ATI power module on one of my reef tanks with corals near the surface and none of them showed any signs of stress. You're more likely to burn you corals on LEDs than T5s I think. I think that 24" sun power will work great over your tank. The great thing about T5s is the all enveloping spread of light that it blasts out, as opposed to the near pin-point laser beams that LEDs throw out :-)

Thanks for the info!

If you guys got some pics of your gundams I don't mind you posting it here. It will be entertaining! Since this thread has more posts about gundams than my tank anyways

Acrowhora 11-29-2013 02:52 AM

Nice mobile suits...I particularly like Wing Zero:biggrin:

gqlmao 11-29-2013 02:56 AM

For being probably the earliest production MG gundam that I have in my collection. It looks very good, even when compared to the newer Exia model. Such a classic gundam, I remember the tv show when I was still a kid in elementary. I stayed up till 11 just to watch it on YTV.

I still watch old Gundam series online.where do you purchase your Gundams?im looking for Gundam dynames(Lockon stratos' mobile suit) but can't seem to find it anywhere in Vancouver.

gqlmao 11-29-2013 03:10 AM

I am fortunate, in Calgary there are 3 stores that sell gundams. 1 store actually specializes in gundams. You can get them at hobbylink, hobbywave which are online sites.

Which store in calgary do you get yours from Stanley? I've never bought any in Calgary. I got all mine online from eBay or http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/default.aspx

kien 11-29-2013 03:50 AM

Actually, I did buy a couple of 1/144 scale gundams from Pheonix comics in Calgary once, and one from Chinook Hobby. Totally forgot about those places. I would be interested to hear about those dedicated places in Calgary though, as I have never been! I stopped collecting when I had kids (and started my current tank) a few years ago. I want to crack open open a box or two this winter break though. My son really likes them too, except that I don't let him play with them.

gqlmao 11-29-2013 03:53 AM

They are all in china town. If you go into dragon city mall, go upstairs and there will be in a small little shop. The shop is glass on 3 sides? You can't miss it, it has gundam boxes and anime figures pretty much on the glass wall. That one has a lot of models.

I go to another one across the street (across from dragon city parking lot) its called Far East Shopping Centre, its in a little strip mall and inside there are two shops that sell them. I go to the one with the old couple running it, they usually have slightly better prices and I hagel.

awesome things! Will have to make a trip this weekend just for kicks. I've been re-watching Gundam Seed these past few days.

gqlmao 11-29-2013 04:13 AM

Your welcome, they are so fragile, I am sure when he gets older he will appreciate them and build them. Honestly I stopped watching after gundam seed, they cried too much... I heard gundam 00 and unicorn was good but I just never gave them a chance. You should give Code Geass a try, it has mechs and makes you think just like Death Note.

Anything like Evangelion? I'll have to look them up. I have all the EVAs too

gqlmao 11-29-2013 04:30 AM

Lol, I don't like Evangelion, such an apocalyptic anime and the ending ruined it for me. I don't think there is any similar ones of that genre in terms of mech. I do however think the EVA models are very cool and unique, especially the bigger perfect grades. Have a look on myanimelist and see the list of for mech anime.

Evangelion was weird. I only liked maybe half the stories. The ending was the ultimate in weirdness. I just liked the EVA battles.

gqlmao 12-02-2013 01:26 AM

Did you have a chance to go see them gundams this weeked?

Nah, the majority was already in the tank, just never took pictures of them. Gotta save some substance for the thread or else it would be filled with gundams . The baby blue tabling acro is new though, its definitely a eye catcher hopefully I won't have any issues retaining the color. Hopefully one day I will be able to frag it, and spread the awesomeness.

Actually, the shop in Dragon City Mall was closed :( I was kinda bummed about that. The shop behind DCM was open though and that guy was cool. Got to Gundam Geek out and he gave me a sweet discount. I found some easy Gundam Age-1s for my son to build as well as he has been interested in them since watching Pacific Rim a few weeks ago.

I've been out of Gundams for a while now (since getting married and starting a family) and all my old Gundams (mostly Gundam Wings) are boxed up somewhere. I've been trying to find that box to dust them off and put them back on display. I suspect that box is at my parents somewhere.

Ever since watching Pacific Rim I've been interested in getting back into building Gundams but thanks to you I am officially back at it now haha. Thanks a lot Stanely..

.. oh, and nice corals, keep up the good work, i guess. (obligatory tank related post).

P.S. Do you have any Perfect Grades? Maybe I should start a Gundam thread in the lounge ..

Thanks.. i was surfing these sites all weekend which is where I discovered the Prefect Grades.. I've once again fallen down the slippery slope of Gundamss..

gqlmao 12-02-2013 05:45 PM

Oh my god what have I done! Pretty soon its going to be gundams over acros for you :P. I spy with my little eye a deathscythe hell MG in the sink :) Don't forget to get the primer, paints, top coat and inking and let the long nights begin.

I have a PG, its wing gundam. It took me over a week to build, with the newer PGS, especially strike freedom PG its even bigger and badder than ever with way more pieces. My friend collects gundams and hes most of the PGs even made. I don't like PGs, I like MGs since they are smaller, cheaper and take up less room and not to mention a lot more posable, there usually involves lots of joint modifications on PGs since they are so heavy.

http://www.dalong.net This guy has every gundam in his collection, this is where I go to see which ones I want since he will have new ones prior to release since hes sponsored.

haha ya, pretty much..

I have a Deathscythe in 1/144 HG and have always wanted a 1/100. I'll start with this to see how it goes. I doubt I will collect any PGs as I find them too big as well. I don't have the space for it at all. Or maybe just one PG down the road.. (that Astray Red Frame looks so bad ass). Mostly I'm interested in the MG of this modern age. All of mine are HG 1:144 with just a couple of HG 1:100. What they've done with the MG these days is just insane! And even the Real Grades look really good and still affordable. I'll probably end up with a few Real Grades as well before the year is out.

Acros? Is that a Gundam? Does it come in a MG ??

kien 12-02-2013 05:55 PM

Also, I'm not sure where to put the build thread for my Gundams. Maybe convert my tank build thread into my Gundam build thread.

gqlmao 12-14-2013 12:05 AM

Well, I finally had some time to take some more pictures, I am slowly learning... there's still a lot of noise in the pictures. My hands can't hold them camera still when I am taking over head shots, the macro lens is too sensitive and tripods don't work when you need them to :(

Update -Still awaiting the new ATI lights, hopefully the corals will like it a lot better than the Radion, some corals aren't impressed at all...

I gotta visit your house sometime with my sps clipper Stanley  Those are some crazy stuffs you got there

Which ATI did you order? I ordered my dimmable one (couldn't resist lol) last week :D

gqlmao 12-14-2013 06:03 AM

When I have some frags I will definitely let you know :) hopefully in a couple of months. I have some wild growers, they grow like weed. The expensive stuff takes forever to grow... I got the 8 bulb dimmable, concept gave me a deal I couldn't resist :) The fixture will sit flush with the tank, since the tank is 18 inches wide. I will have some light flood but it's something I can live.

8 bulbs?! That would be way too overkill for a 14" high tank isinit? I got myself the 6 bulb since I thought 8 bulbs would be too much for my acans and some other LPS that I might keep down the road.

gqlmao 12-14-2013 06:09 AM

It will be fine, the dimmable fixtures will be helpful in that respect. I run my radion at almost 90 percent right now, the pieces near the top aren't really showing any signs of bleaching, all about the properly acclimating the corals. I have no LPS in the tank so I am not too worried about excessive lighting.

Do you know rehypes tank? it was a 24x24x9 high, it was running 6 bulbs + 2 led strips.

Yes sir! I don't miss the LEDs at all... Just kidding the T-5s are too bulky if that is one complaint I have. Photography is very nice under T-5 I don't have to shut off my pumps, nor worry about discoball effects. Very uniform and I love how it looks when I stand back in a dark room.

Had some time for some quick pics! The corals are still getting used to the lighting, I am starting to see color changes in a couple SPS pieces. The surprising part is I don't even have the light running more than 3 hours!! It's been rough trying to get the corals use to the T5s, they are so powerful.
