Yea it was a blast:lol:

I have the sand mixed in buckets right now, i'm not liking the look of it. Hopefully it'll look better once in the tank.

 Atleast you have a backyard/place to clean it. Being a resident in apartment, bathtub and tap were my only option and swimming with 50lb of sand particles in there was no fun! Itchy itchy!

One thing I have learned (personal opinion) is, if you don't like something outside the tank, there's a higher possibility that you would regret it inside  And everyone loves caribsea fiji pink  I have seen that brand of sand in stores but never liked the look of it.

Well it turns out my build is going to take longer than I thought. I'm so not at all impressed or happy about it. That's all I want to say right now. With the crap I had to put up with shipping with Greyhound and now this, it just makes a guy want to just say the heck with it and sell it all and get out of the hobby. It's supposed to be enjoyable.

Hang in there buddy. It'll get better. It always does. Unless of course you've got Blue Cloves. In which case, sorry, you're SOL.

BlueTang<3 11-26-2013 12:26 PM

My build took about a year tank still isn't running fully and it's at year 2 lol it's getting closer. It's a big undertaking especially with a remote sump, my sump is 50 feet across the house. Best to do it slowly and properly tho than rush

Snappy 11-26-2013 02:31 PM

Tagging along
Looking forward to the progression.

Madreefer 11-26-2013 08:28 PM

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

Madreefer 11-26-2013 11:56 PM

It's coming together

Madreefer 11-28-2013 04:36 PM

Thanks man. I cant wait until I gets here.

Madreefer 12-01-2013 06:43 PM

Tank should be arriving tomoro and stand goes in to the cabinet maker as well. Was playing around with my crappy little camera today, I cant get a proper pic to capture the colors. This is probably the best it's looked so far. Uggg I don't want to try taking it apart.

Thanks bud. Yea I'm sooo dreading that day. I'll probably use half of my sand. I already have 80lbs of rinsed new stuff ready to go and I have a whole whack of rock in my sump and various other containers in my basement.

Madreefer 12-04-2013 02:46 PM

Tank showed up. Guys at Concept do a pretty good job of packaging their tanks up. Weighed 855lbs

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...arrival002.jpg

And the new sump

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...arrival004.jpg

And the work begins

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...arrival005.jpg

Doug 12-04-2013 03:32 PM

Kool. Did it ship by transport? Thats what I should have done.

Madreefer 12-06-2013 05:00 AM

Put my sump inline today.

It went from this

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...arrival006.jpg

To this

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...arrival007.jpg

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...arrival009.jpg

Is still have to clean up the plumbing but i'll do that when I set up the new tank. The guys at Concept did a great job on this sump. I could'nt be happier with it. Not it's not leaking, i'm just messy

Madreefer 12-17-2013 03:03 AM

Well I've got everything here but a few fittings that I can get at Andrew Sheret but the tanks a no go for a bit. I had wrist surgery today. Dammit!!! I cant get my arm wet and all the mysterious creepies and bacterias in my wound probably would put me right back in the hospital. But if there's a will there's a way.

gregzz4 12-17-2013 03:08 AM

I'm pondering a new sump too

Looks good Bill

Keep everything except beer away from that wrist

Madreefer 12-30-2013 06:19 PM

So I got the beast in to the house

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...chips001-1.jpg

I don't like the looks of this though. Not too impressed.

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...nkchips002.jpg

Proteus 12-30-2013 06:43 PM

Wth. Is it on front pane.

Madreefer 12-30-2013 06:49 PM

No it's on the side. Either way it's not acceptable. If it leaks or blows out I'll be calling a lawyer before using house insurance after talking to builder about it this morning.

Proteus 12-30-2013 07:12 PM

I agree. I'd be taking it back

wreck 12-30-2013 07:24 PM

Thats not cool....

What a drag

ronau 01-01-2014 12:34 AM

Was it like this out of the box? Damage from shipping?

It was very well packed. I received it 3 weeks ago and I wasn't able to thoroughly inspect it until I was able to get it in the house. It's passed the water test so tank transfer is today. As bad as the chips look I've found a solution that would be easier than the hassle of sending it back a province away. I'm going to put some wood moulding that matches my stand around the edge of my tank. Finished the plumbing yesterday and today's the big day. Will post pics later.

Ya it looks worse than it is I'd say, it is what it is to bad but if you can trim it up I'm sure it'll be fine.
Can't wait to see the pictures!

Madreefer 01-03-2014 10:23 PM

Well it took three days to finally get my tank up and running. I only lost a my pistol shrimp. Could'nt find him when I took the half circle down, i'm sure he's dead as I have'nt heard the snapping in the new tank yet.
her's my stand. There's alot of unused space in it as everythings in my basement so I thought i'd make my wife happy and put a wine fridge in it. The stand is 38" tall. No bending down to look at the tank.

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/jan14017.jpg

I put felt on the bottom of the stand so I could push it across the floor. I had to have all the plumbing done as I wanted my tank transfer to be quick and easy.

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/jan14005.jpg

I used the outer holes for my main drains and the two inner holes for my emergency drains. I went with the Herby design.
Here's the plumbing

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/jan14006.jpg

Inside the stand, I anchored it all cause I was'nt sure of the weight of the water in the pipes and did'nt want any stress on the bulkheads.

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/jan14007.jpg

Flex tube to go from tank in to basement, figured it was was easier than using PVC pipe.

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/jan14011.jpg

Cleaned up the piping a bit in my basement as well.

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h.../sump14002.jpg

This is the lid I made out of pieces of acrylic and mesh. Nothings getting out of here.

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...jan14012-1.jpg

Everything is in it finally

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/jan14008.jpg

I'll take some pics later of the tank. Not too in to it right now, my hands got cut up from handeling the rocks and corals. Hands are killing me and infected in all cuts.

Proteus 01-03-2014 10:31 PM

Looks great. And good idea utilizing the stand for a "beer" fridge

Coralgurl 01-03-2014 11:43 PM

What a journey!! Great set up. I'm jealous your sump is in the basement, would love to move mine.... Gotta ask how you skinned the stand?? I really like it, clean lines, I'm skipping the wine fridge tho.....don't like wine.

Madreefer 01-04-2014 12:00 AM

Haha yea I don't like wine either, well the next day. It's for my wife. My beer fridge is in the garage. Stand was built by a cabinet company. There is no holes at all drilled in to the stand. The panels all screw to each other and than corner peices are placed over the screws. The top is a 3/4 piece of plywood. It's wider than my door so I had to assemble it in my house. It's pretty heavy. The steel stand is 188lbs and the wood is maple so I'm not sure what that weighs.

Coralgurl 01-04-2014 12:16 AM

Well, I like it! It's very well done! Wish I'd thought of doing mine before placing the tank on top but I'm not a very patient person and wanted to get it going...

gregzz4 01-04-2014 03:21 AM

Good God Man
That looks awesome

Wow looks great Bill, jealous as hell I want my sump in the basement too.
All I need is a basement first. :thumb:

darkreef 01-04-2014 04:24 AM

Wish I could have my sump in the basement . That's a neat Idea with the fridge
