I've been doing all the math on the costs and the only way I can make a significant reduction is to shut down the PCs while the MHs are on. I don't like the look of the tank though with the reduced lighting, especially less the actinic. Even then it is only about $9/month savings. I guess I'll just have to suffer the wrath every time the power bill comes along. The main reason its such a shock is because it has doubled our power useage. On the upside, with the 75 gallon tank now empty, I might save a bit from it this month. I think I'm going to look into that LED idea.

I have been sourcing alot of the most effecient pumps out there, at the same time I dont think Im going to do a surge on that tank anymore as it wont have as many corals in it now because we are putting a 1200+ gallon tank in our living room that will have more corals in it as well as some nice schools of fish(7'-9'x5'x5') It will use some of the most energy effecient pumps on the market, LED lighting, and a few other things to make it special..... The larger show tank out in the garage will probably just house some sharks, with a few scared fish... |
I am sure glad I am the one who looks after the power bills.
Last year I made them raise the budget amount a fair bit, so now this months bill came in at zero payment required. I promptly ran around going "Look dear " |

That's part of my trouble, I'm not the one who was paying the power bill. I have been informed though that from now on I will be
