I purchased a universal AC to DC power adapter that goes from 1.5v to 12v in 1.5v intervals, the tips are too small though, so I need an additional tip. The adapter was $25. do you think this would work, and is it the best way to go?

Yes, that would be the best way to go for sure. Not sure what voltages are supposed to be on there though. You might want to ask someone here that has the stock moonlight adaptor what is says on their plug-in. |
