You have to use such a small amount of it, even in my 230g, that I don't really see the need for a reactor if you have any flow going thru it at all. :confused:

After 24 hrs - no need to clean the glass today. Strange. Cyano still there, but not as healthy for sure.

Fish and sessile inverts seemed starved and fed extremely voraciously tonite for some reason. All six cleaners fighting with the fish for a meaty dinner.

I can't remember if I had any cyano patches before I put it in, Deb. I don't see any right now. When I added it I was reading PO4 at about .25 and after a week it was down to about 0.1. Then I got impatient with testing PO4 and haven't tested since. I'm not running one of those reactors (they're upflow style) but I am running it with my carbon just in a 3" PVC pipe with some eggcrate on the bottom to hold it in and a wee powerhead to pipe water through it. When the water level overflows over the top I clean out the filter socks. I imagine the reactor or at least an upflow style cannister would be more effective, but I was happy with the moderate reduction I got out of it.

I did go and buy a reactor from Big Al's, and I was going to use it on the 72g, but, well, .... :neutral: I guess it's less of rush issue now.

Incidentally it hasn't really helped with the odd patch of hair algae, I still have to pull that out manually about once a month.

I have some pretty old base rock and some 15yr. old Florida rock. Seems as ongoing battle to keep algae from growing on it, despite high flow, bare bottom, 32in. beckett skimmer and ATS.

Mike Miles also had the same ongoing problem, in his 180 softy tank. I suggested, after all the reads on RC, that he try some Phosban. Remember he has been fighting with this algae for a year or more. After a couple of months of Phosban use, his algae problem seems to be gone. :eek: Is it directly related to the Phosban? Who knows? He did add some calerpa to his sump, which is helping, I assume so, but he was running my scrubber previous, when I had no large tank.

So I decided my tank would be a good test. No other changes were made. But before I ordered Phosban, Phil at Xenia North America {Giesemann Lighting}, asked me if I would try some Rowaphos in my tank. Good test situation we figured. It arrived a few days ago. I started out with half the suggested dose for now. Been only a couple days so far. I will make a full report once I see some results, positive or negative.
