my cat was a bad kitty at one point but has since settled in now she watches the fish sitting on the couch... Obviously missed my thread from November

Cats work out a lot better than two malamutes do.

do reef tanks and cats mix?????......not very well as I find it takes a long time for the cat to dissolve:twised:

+1 dogs are winners. I only took my cat in out of a promise to someone once close to me. I'm a dog person thick and thin though.

Not planning anytime soon in putting a screen over my tank at this time... hope this won't be a huge concern...

Like to hear your story of how a pussy cat ruined your life...

It took me close to two years to realize that the reason my freshwater fish never lived more than a couple months was that the cat would sit next to the tank at bat at the fish all night long. I started putting a towel over the tank at night and didn't loose another fish for well over a year.

There are lots of videos out there of cats falling into open top tanks though. The trick is to have it tall enough that the cat can't jump on it, no room on the stand for the cat to use as a step, and no furniture next to the tank for the cat to jump from.

Guess I should go thru all the cat youtube vids...

I think it depends on your cat.

Lazy Maine Coon probably not a problem.

Hyperactive Bengal may be curious and try to go fishing.

Most don't like to get wet.

I don't have a problem with my cat other than her trying to drink out of the ATO water. Simple lid solved that.

Another great tip... get lid for water.

Litter boxes are not even close to an issue, catgenies work pretty good. My complaints are more along the lines of not being able to train them. They into everything, they learn to open cupboards and can reach virtually every height meaning no hiding spots. They eat and knock over house plants, destroy your work, scream and bark (my neighbor hears them), keep you up all night and sleep while you're away. But my personal new favorite.... Eat your freaking clothes.

But yeah they leave my tank alone.
