i made sure its not. not anywhere out of water. not in the overflow

i did smell the water in another room and it did have a slight oder

sounds like the fish is rotting somewhere in the tank, do you have any AMQUEL or AMMO-LOCK?

it will lock up the amonnia and prevent it from harming your system until it can be removed via skimming, water changes, etc.
i keep a small bottle on hand at all times for just such an emergency.

Do. You run a dehumidifier? My. Basement. Got lots of funny smells with the tank down there last year. I do not have a dehumidifier but leave the windows down there open and it only smells once in a while. No smells in winter.

no, i just keep the windows open and the smell goes away.

overnight the humidity in my house gets to 70%... during the day while the windows are open its around 50%

im not to worried about one dead fish causing an ammonia spike.... i have 250 gallons total volume and about 250 pounds of live rock
