OK just got off the phone with a company Rich suggested,George King. What they told me to do was, go into photoshop and type in 300 dpi in the image size window and that would tell me the size I could go with for a picture with 300dpi. The answer was 17.4X 16.2" which is much closer to what I'm looking for then the 5X7. Am I still missing something?

OK just got off the phone with ABC Photo and they even said one could go as low as 150dpi with good results. I'll have to see some samples and put some more research into it. @ 150dpi the picture would be 31.5X 23.5 much closer to what I'm after. I geuss the tough part would be to get the whole picture bang on as far as in focus goes. The other option may be to have a couple pictures enlarged and frame them both for the one wall.

I guess all ideas sound good when you have no clue

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dots_per_inch

You computer screen has a DPI of about 72. If you set your printer to print your picture using 72DPI then the picture would come out about the same size as what you see on the screen but will be low quality as far as pictures are concerned. If you set the DPI to about 150 then, your picture will be about 50% shorter in length and height. At 300DPI, it when then be half that size again.

So if your original image was 2272X1704, and your screen was 72 DPI it would be about 31"x23.7" and that explains why it wouldn't fit on your screen.

Hi Jamie. Make sure that you have the "Resample Image Size" checkbox unchecked. I believe that you have it checked and the image is resizing itself in order to support the dimensions that you want.

A 2272 X 1704 image should be 7.57"x5.68".

I agree that you should try 150DPI and see how it looks. You can get a 15.15" x 11.36" picture at that DPI.

Thanks

Hey Jamie, I've got a good buddy in Abbotsford who has a colour plotter than can do huge prints. I've seen some of the large posters he's printed from digital photos and they look great.

Contact me via PM and I'll email you his contact info. You can call him directly and see what he'll charge (very little) to have something printed up. And considering he's close to you it's also much more convenient than heading into the city.

Ok I'd like to say thank you to you all for your insight. Also thanks to those that have pm'd with your kind offers. I'll let you all know how and if this turns out.

Jamie, why not just start another reef and put it in the wall.... You must have some frags there...... just a few..

Doug
