Essentially yes, running the pellets would make GFO redundant. The Pellets also soak up Nitrates that GFO does not, just to name a couple of benefits.

Absolutely! Pellets don't metabolize toxins, heavy metals, tannins, or chemicals from the water. Carbon is important.

Thanks... Just upgrading from my 12g nano to a 50g build. I ask this because i've never replaced the carbon or the ceramic rings since i bought the tank over 2 years ago.
