Sometimes you can just use a 5-6' prying bar that the end is wedge-shaped. Slide it along the floor to hit the mortar between the tile and the sub-floor. They will often pop up in one or a few pieces each. If this works it is easier to clean up than the other methods.

All else fails, use a 40 lb jack hammer.

thanks for all the replys, i went to home depot today and they don't have the tile stripper all they have is a jackhammer with a chisel tip so i'm going to try that next week,

Your level of frustration in removing tile is directly proportional to the care taken by the person who laid the old floor - the more care taken by him, the harder your job will be. If the guy was lazy, then you might be able to pop the tiles off one by one with a nothing more than a crowbar, but if the tiles are set good and true then a good jackhammer you will need.
