Yeah it was a custom build. Speaking of skimmers, we sat in a talk about TOC (total organic carbon) and skimmers, and quite frankly... the skimmer sales people were not too impressed that the speaker shot down a lot of their claims. Lets just say, bigger is not always better.

I wish I had recorded it for everyone.

Did he/she go on at length about how much better red pvc is within the confines of skimmer technology?

Atomikk 09-30-2009 07:40 PM

Hahaha. The summary of this topic was that all skimmers eventually flatten out in their performance. Some do it quicker than others. Even with massive skimmers, you will have to do water changes to remove the rest of the TOC.

That sounds about right to me. I think I've read in a few places that the concentration of the organics themselves determines how well they'll bind to the bubbles.

What does a trip that like end up costing after travel, accommodation and everything else is calculated in? I'd love to go some year but I dont know if I'm hardcore enough to afford it.

If you want the works (ie the entire weekend), 2 nights, gas, rental, food, admission.. probably around 500-700$ I don't have the specifics in front of me.
