Really nice Em. Thank goodness you rescued it from being bought and put into a tank with a twenty minute "float the bag" acclimatization.

Yep. I was just wondering how many people have starfish in their reef tanks.

I have red serpent star in my main tank and an orange fromia (but I think it might be a linkia) in my nano. The serpent star is very active. It goes psycho when I dump frozen food into the tank. |
That's a very cool looking starfish Em, is there diet similar to the linkia sp.?

I've never had a linckia, well I did once for about two days...............it melted.
So as far as diet I don't know. I have had the orange knobby in the reef (with clams) for years, and it is a detritus, algae pellet eater. And also white stars... The new fromia has been on the rock mostly, and on the glass a couple times. So far the behavior is similar. My orange knobby had a run in with an anemone recently however, and has that story to tell complete with pics, but I just haven't had time. |
I really like the Linka's and I might get one sometime in the near future. I will be going to Vancouver this weekend I think.
Kari, Little white sand stars sound cool. Too bad you're too far away for a LS trade. |

I don't think they're sand stars anyway. Really I have no idea what they are. I've seen them in many tanks around here. They seem to just eat diatoms and multiply like rabbits. There's a similar one on the upper left corner of Emily's photo. There is many differant and very colorful stars that appear to be reef safe. I guess the trick is to find one that you can keep happy. I don't think there is much written on their care (haven't come across much.) I've been able to keep the one in question for quite some time so far  As far as the linckia, 8-12 months and gone. Maybe somebody here can share some knowledge on keeping them. As per far away, I dream of living on the island. Only problem is to find a long term work place. Give me a note if you want photos of the stars I have had luck with so far. ( my camera = my photo skills ) Kari |
