I ran fresh water through it. Why the backing soda?

Just to help clean out any cooties (read bacteria) that might linger. This was advice from my fave Victoria LFS, should I have found myself hanging onto them for longer (read unsold). That's all I know, but makes sense. After all, people used to brush their teeth with the stuff :puke:.
