Well, since my refracto is temperature compensated I just read it after 1 minute. My tank is at 35 ppt salinity (~1.026 SG), doesn't vary much since I'm diligent about topping off (and my tank is glass covered).

1 gallon jug maybe? I keep mine at 1.025 ... about 1 gallon every couple of days.. manually at this point.. figuring out an ATO system still.. |
Right now, my 150g is almost 3g/day evap. another gallon for the 45g. Thank god for centralized ATO LOL

ya mine is about the same 3-4 gal a day. my sal 1026 at 80.4
|
1.026 at 78o......maybe after my evap it will creep close to 1.027 but its a small tank......15 gal.....I top off about every day and a half with 3-4L....depends on the temp....Open top tank

Thanks for your reponses,
There were days last months extremely hot. I had the fan blowing in my 35 gallon tank to keep the temp down; resulting large amount of evaporation and increasing in the salinity. Fortunately, I was off work for those days and actively and manually top off with fresh water. In the future, i might not be too lucky when I am at work. The salinity will creep up more than .002 . Have you guys ever heard of large change in salinity the tank causing the corals and fishes to die? |

Just cos I am a geek:nerd: and I brought a hydrometer this weekend to indian arm and I tested the water it was .032! i tested it a couple times and the same reading each time, low tide was about four hours before this...

salinity
1.026 @ 78-80 My chiller sprang a leak so it is not running at the moment. Tank and sump come to just under three hundred gallons. I top off three to four gallons a day directly into the sump buy the inflow from the overflow.
The tank is mostly SPS and I have never noticed any problems. It is not really much into 300gal though. Smaller tanks may be different due to volume but I would think it would be relative though. Keith. |
