I had a Daschund growing up for 16 years (our 1st dog), he was an awesome dog as well I had another one that I rescued from someone for a while and re-homed him. The one thing about them is they are very stubborn (as with most hounds) they are a lot smarter than they let on as well. Alot of them seem to have "selective hearing" they know what you want them to do but just don't seem to care, they are very food motivated but watch with the treats as the last thing you want is for them to get fat, back problems are a big problem if you don't watch their weight (due to their length)

My brother (Spanky on here) has two mini's at the moment so I'm sure he'll chime in here eventually with some pictures too.

My brothers two daschys are totally different in personality, you couldn't get two more different dogs that are the same breed.

Some Quirky things that I found almost all of them like.

- love to be as hot as possible, under blankets in bed, laying in clothes out of the dryer, laying on/beside heat registers.

- for some reason a lot of them like when you lay on the floor on your back and blow on their neck (wierd I know, but I've seen at least 6 that love this)

- love to jump off of things, even though they shouldn't be allowed to due so.

- The one I rescued could play ball 24/7, and when you stopped playing with him he would bury the ball in a planket himself and try to find it.

They can be really wonderful dogs, a pretty big package in a tiny body, lots of personality. Sounds like you have a German Shepherd barking behind the door only to find this little rat once you get in.

One thing to keep in mind is that they are hunters (rodents, badgers) etc. so if you have pet hamsters or birds or anything, keep them away, instinct always prevails (I speak from experience)

All in all I think you will have fun with the little one, hounds are definatly different in their own right, but they can be wonderful pets.

Feel free to ask if you have anymore questions, I'm sure Lance (spanky) will post some pic's of his guys when he gets a chance.

Elliot

You should have knit him a little "weenie warmer"; cuz that would be hilarious watching you put it on him every time he went outside.
Oh, and by the way, Oscar is very cute.

thanks guys/gals for the the responses. Jacqueline (my friend) should be here within the hour...STOKED!

It seems as though I'll have two stubborn dogs on my hands when Oscar comes. I guess a pluss out of getting a dog who's two is that he's already house broken, knows basic commands (whether or not he listens to them will be interesting) and for the last month has been living with 2 german shepards (who have now gone to live with Jaquelines Mom and Dad, who owned them first....kind of confusing)

Apparently he'll come with a few sweaters....I swore I would never dress any dog I ever owned, but I bought Dexter a Flames Jersey (a reall doggie Jersey! It's got all the patches etc of a jersey that we would buy for ourselves)....I don't even have a Flames Jersey. Something is wrong with that picture...

My cat has a Canucks jersey but when I put it on him, he just freezes and won't move.

Sounds like a true Vancouver Canuck!

I used to train dogs. these guys very tenacious, stubborn and smart. They will test you if you are a weak pack leader and take advantage of you as well. With the right owner and I know you are fantastic, they are fabulous dogs. They do tend to bark a lot and will bite heels if the owner allows that behavior.

You are going to have so much fun. Bring your pups to Bragg for some hiking I can take you on trails that only the locals know about. Of course when the snow melts or we will never find the little guy... My Stafford has to tunnel out of the snow all the time.

That would be awesome I still want to hire ytou to do the artwork and ink for my tribute tattoo for Diva... it is a very important piece of work for this next one. It is time to get it done. The tank was the winter thing and I won't be spending all my money on it, just enough to run it now.

Well, the boys just had their first meeting...what a gong show! Lots of sniffing, circling and playing already. Dexter is still a little hyper for Oscar's liking, so right now Oscar is sitting on the couch beside me. I'm going to let them get a little more used to them before I try and grab pictures...
