I think that if you wanted to keep costs down, you could do a very nice softie tank, with Ecorox, bare-bottom, a fishneedit.com light and a bubble magus HOB skimmer. Put fish in as you see fit.

I'd be surprised if you spent much less on a Cichlid tank. Especially with all the locals having softies to frag from.

It's just an idea though.

I don't like softies (shh!!!). All I need to make a cichlid tank is a (cheap compared to sw) light fixture, and the fish, oh and some sand. I have an Eheim 2026 (if I remember correctly) sitting in my closet collecting dust. In fact, I could probably rig up a light too. I want to put a few hardy, low light plants in the tank too.

what about DL 88 has those 2 400 w pendants if you are looking you have probably seen them right,..

Ya I did see them, thanks though. :) I think they would create much of a spotlight on my 36" tank, and I don't want to deal with the heat issues of 400w.

Well if you are interested in a MH Canopy I have a 2x175W MH SE, 2x55W PC Canopy. It has a ballast the runs all 4 bulbs. Going for 250. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks, but I see your canopy is 48", and my tank is only 36" otherwise you may have had a deal. ;)
