There are two very different dogs called labradoodles.

There are muligeneration Austrailian labradoodles which are a cross of 6 different breeds (primarily lab and poodle though). The Australian multgen is usually hypoallergenic.

The second type of labradoodle are crosses between labs and poodles. F1 (crossing a lab and a poodle) usually have wavy coats and are not hypoallergenic. Same thing for F2 (an F1 lab poodle cross mated to an F1 lab poodle cross) The most likely to be hypoallergenic are F1B (an F1 lab poodle cross mated to a poodle resulting in a 25% lab, 75% poodle cross).

So, going by the size of a Lab and a Standard Poodle, a Labradoodle would be about 60 lbs?

that depends if it is tea cup, minature, or standard poodle size. breeders do various sizes.

The standard would be that size. There are three types of labradoodles depending on the size of poodle mixed in.

We are getting a medium multigen Australian and have been told to expect a dog around 17 inches at the shoulder and 30 lb. Both parents are smaller mediums.

I'd be concerned getting a F1 mixed between a very small of a poodle and a lab. Some breeders will do this using artificial insemination. I'd worry about genetic problems mixing dogs that different in size.

They seem to be extremely expensive dogs. :surprise: I'd love to know more about them since you have already done the legwork. Is the breeder local ? Please PM me.

Oops, and about the beagle....lol, had one. Never again. Last time I saw it was after we moved to an acreage and it had freedom to run. Ran for three days that I saw, and disappeared. Most thankless dog I've ever owned. They sure are cute though.

That's weird about the beagle. I know someone who bought one hoping to take it duck hunting but when he fired a gun the dog ran. It jumped out of a car window when startled one day and they never found it.

Yes, they will do that. The beagle book we bought states that you should never let it off a leash as they will pick up a scent and take off. So we are going to fence the yard for her. In the meantime, I guess lots of long walks.

Different people want different things from their dogs. The beagle may be perfect for you. I grew up with dogs like labs. The beagle was a shock because it really didn't give a crap about where you were or what you were doing.

Probably why I prefer the total opposite, the VERY needy doberman...lol. :lol:

Not everyone wants a needy dog though. And since you know about not letting it run free, cool !
