i was meaning the brown orange algae.

well now its turning into reed sllime algae. i dont stress too much about it but the algae is so thick that my buttons and polyps cant open. im doing a half assed blackout for a few days. i dont wnat to kill any of my corals tho. i am hoping 3 days in the dark will be ok.

The red slime actually syphons off really easily.....then do the black out....

ElGuappo 02-29-2008 07:17 PM

i have tried to syphon out the red slime but its not working? should i take the shaftr of the syphon and just use the 1/2 inch tubing? i would think ths woulld increase flow.

It would also suck up all of your sand.
how much flow is in the tank?

ElGuappo 03-01-2008 05:09 PM

quite abit now i have the two standard PWs and added 2 korilias a 1 for behind my rock and added a nano for the front face yesterday. i have limitd my light to about 3 hours a day now.

i found some more valonia and let it be as i found out its good for the emerald crab.

At work we had the same problem. I found increased flow, water changes once a week and sumps properly set up helped alot.

Could also use a turkey baster to blast the stuff of your corals.
