I dunno...i see that people are in a rush to fill their x-mas tanks up. As a result, LFS are mass ordering during the coldest time of year which also stress out fish too.
I just find that in January/February you will definately find ich in pet stores, and shortage of cleaner shrimp too.

Just my observation, I guess.....

Permits are $25:wink:

Pet City is in the Mission, in the same complex as Coopers,
Very small selection there,

Reef keepers is actually run out of a shop they built in their back yard.

check their website

It sounds like some of you guys in Kelowna should make a trip up to Vernon once in a while. AJ's is still a little expensive (like Pet City, most things are $50-$60) but they carry clean-up crews galore and they are starting to get more and more corals during each shipment. Andrew the owner knows his stuff pretty well too.

The manager of Complete pet is a fairly dedicated reefer (4 or 5 decent tanks at home and working on more) and has 5 tanks of salt stuff. She's usually priced 10 -15% below AJ's and brings in some interesting stuff. She will also do some frags sometimes (rare & no SPS) but I haven't found anyone else who will do this in the Okanagan. Complete pet is on 29th St...behind Canadian Tire.

I visited them last summer when I first started reseaching reefs. They were still intheir basement at that time. So when they moved next door they built a dedicated building?

So it sounds like the primary choices are reefkeepers, AJs and Complete Pet.

Anyone care to compare prices, service, knowledge among these 3? I normally value service and knowledge over price.

Oscar,

Yes, they build a dedicated shop out back for the tanks. its quite nice, and that to me shows dedication, as they do not make much off the sales. They are in this for good and well being of the hobby. Randy is very knowledgable about the equipment and majority of the livestock. The only down side is, they may be closing the doors and going to apointment basis only, due to some Jackass, who thought it would be funny, apparently poured some perfume or other toxic chemicle into their reef tank causeing the loss of thousands of dollars in fish & Corals.

On the other hand, they are always helpful, and i find them Cheaper for many things.

Rock @ RK, is 8$ /lb AJ's is 12$/lb
chromis $2/15 AJ's is 19$ each
many more examples, but clearly if your in the kelowna area, Reefkeepers is the place to go. for now.

:)

Thanks Cav. I will be in Vernon later this week. I am hoping to visit all three to do some more window shopping.

Reef Keepers had their tanks poisioned a couple weeks back, so they don't have a very big selection right now, but are building back up. Keep that in mind when you visit. They usually have more.

AJ's is getting new stock in this Thursday, from Bali. But they are pretty tight on letting things go before Sunday. Which is kind of good, but not good for out of towners

Oscar 01-15-2008 03:07 PM

I do not have a tank just yet so I am still in the window shopping mode. I just put in a request to the town for a print out from their recent water quality tests. Hoping I can avoid installing an RO system.

As an extra bonus Summerland is supposed to be firing up the new water treatment plant in a few weeks time.

Although every one's water supply is different here in the valley are you guys using tap water or RO system?
