I believe (and am open to correction here), The height of your baffles should be the "running water level" in your sump. I would leave enough space above your baffles to hold all the water in the plumbing in the event of a power failure.
|
The baffle height will also depend on your skimmer. For example my skimmer is supposed to operate with a water level between 6" and 8". I made my baffles too high so I had to build a platform to put my skimmer on.

Ok,
I'm still fairly happy with version 2, with one major exception. I don't like the intake set-up. I'm not sure why I don't like it, nobody on this board or others have commented negatively (or positively for that matter) on it, it just bugs me. Can anyone offer any reassurance that it's ok, or suggestions on how to improve it?? I'm hoping to buy the glass tommorow so I can build this on the weekend! Thanks for all the help so far and don't quit responding!!!! |
I would probably leave the first baffle the height you had it orginally. Why the concern about calm water on the skimmer intake?
Lots of sump plans here. |
The owners manual mentions that the skimmer performs best in calmer waters. It's a tunze 9010
|
The baffle bugging me btw is the 6" high one dividing the first compartment into an intake section and a skimmer section. I just reread and I don't think I was very clear.
