I once bought one of those too. It was an absolute POS. The bulb crapped out in a very short time. I managed to get another one, and it too crapped out. It is good it was discontinued so that nobody else gets sucked in. Coralife occasionally sells crap, and that Solar System should be right on top of the list.

I think I can see single polyps on the tip of each branch but I'm not certain... the piece is only about 1" tall and only has about five branches. I figure it's still alive and I'm crossing my fingers, what does everyone else think? All of my other acros are visibly growing/colouring up.

Any change in the coral Quinn? Sounds like a difference in lighting between your tank and Evan's.

Nothing. I've got it under dual 400w Ushios. I think Evan has Radiums but I'm not sure. I'm adding actinics pretty quick here so we'll see what that does.

Talked to a friend who said there's a type of acro that only has single polyps on a few branches, and is otherwise smooth. Pretty sure this is what we're talking about, as mine looks like this and I think Evan's mother coral was the same. So mine is obviously alive, just a very slow grower.

The mother colony is the same. It only has polyps on the growth tips of each branch. Mine's under dual 400W 20,000K lighting and is a peachy pink with a wierd blue/green irridescence. It's a slow grower but is growing none the less. Take a look at night you should see the polyps out, mines are never extended during the day.

Here's a pic of it on the left.
