Wow!! I just looked through the RC thread on the 1200g tank install
Whoever takes the Calgary tank has got some serious planning ahead of them. I'd like to tag along on the thread of the person who takes the tank and what they have to do to set it up. Gonna be big bucks for sure :drinking: |
And I thought I had a big move coming up.

It is probably worth calling "dibs" on it just for the salvage value of the glass and related paraphenelia (pumps, etc). Someone in Calgary could make a pretty penny on this "freebie" if they act quickly. Establishing a tank of that size (or even committing the resources to move it) is not something I'd expect as an impulse decision. A lot of planning.
An aside: when moving a large piece of equipment into a work building a while ago, the engineering solution was to dig a pit, cut a hole (a new, large door, effectively) in the foundation, install the equipment and then re-construct around it. It wasn't as expensive as you'd think. And, comparing to the cost of establishing and running a tank of that size, probably not impossible to consider. |
If you didn't salvage the glass, a 4 foot depth tank. Go swim with the fishes.

Wow ... and I have been looking for glass for my 660G ... hope it's still available
|
Did anyone hear back from this guy yet?
|
If this is glass I'm sure it's fairly thick. Bet it would be exciting to move a 10'x4' sheet of glass.
|
Even disassembled, this is a major lift. A side panel or bottom is going to weigh nearly 500lbs (assuming 3/4" glass).
I'm still curious to know if anyone has knowledge of, or (even better) pictures of, this tank when it was set up. This thing was/is a monster. |
Something is a little weird here.
Gnu-reefer made the thread yesterday and was here at a around 6:30 am this morning and again at 9:50 am. Also, voicemail message(within 20 minutes of his posting.) left for Gnu-reefer at contact number in original post and no reply either way. hmmmmmm............ Very interesting indeed. :) |
Wow, this tank is more than twice as big as my tank - and I remember moving mine when we were building our house --- it took 14 guys to move it - no easy task. We had to move the tank during the framing stages and even though we have a walkout, we still had to get it through the window and in to the fish room, which was framed after the fact. I don't think there's an easy way to move that tank out of the basement.
