do you target feed the sun coral? how often!

GrimReefer 09-29-2006 06:01 PM

I have been feeding the sun coral every night. I'll back off to once every other night once it's healthy again. Or should I say 'if it's healthy again'. I just fragged it. http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=27286

the sun coral is doing great! no tissue recession after the fragging.

i blow off the blue sponge every night, but it's still a sediment trap. and if you can believe it, there is noticable growth after less that two weeks! a few months down the road i'll try to upgrade my circulation. there's some exciting products coming out for water movement and i'm not about to waste my money now.

i'm happy with my stocking for now. i'll fill in the rest of the space with ricrodea, shrooms, and maybe some zoos...eventually. lemonpeel angel is still on the way.

my efforts and funds will now be concentrated on my 30 cube system. i'm going to give it a few more weeks to stabalize, double my current lighting, increase circulation and purchase a few dozen ricordea for propagation. while those are growing, i'm going to add at least one 4 foot tank to the system. this will be designed to maximize surface area while appearing as a display tank. no eggcrate for me, thanks.

if the sun coral starts receding are you supposed to trim it ?

GrimReefer 10-05-2006 01:35 AM

the sun coral's tissue was receeding rapidly and showed no signs of slowing. it started with a few polyps burried in sand, which quickly died off. damaged coral tissue tends to errode unless removed.

Looks awesome, Spence. Love that new hammer. I get the feeling I'm missing out on a wicked Safari shipment! Patience is a virtue!
These exciting products in water movement you speak of.....any idea of "affordability"? What's the cause of the excitement?

Cheers:smile:,

well, affordability is questionable. but the cause of the excitement is the Tunze Nano (supposedly a lot cheaper than the turbelle), the new SEIO controller (presumeably cheap),....and i'm killing myself trying to think of the name of this one...goddamn it is frustrating to have this on the tip of my tongue.....anyways, it blows tunze right out of the water. i'll post when it comes to me.
