My tangs will eat anything and are always hungry, especially the hippo. They are equal opportunity fish and will eat other's waste as well, not just the BTA.

I didn't want to watch, but whoa....that is pretty freaking odd..

Hmmm. What do you find so odd about the video?

Beverly 08-28-2006 05:59 PM

Have just been reading up on anemones at WetWebMedia....

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/anempt2.htm

Quote:

The removal of regurgitated food in mucus balls and bands through netting and siphoning must be a regular maintenance feature. Digestible foods are converted almost entirely into ammonia...to be removed by system filtration. Some filter-feeding anemones produce mucus nets, pass them up and over, trapping particles and ingest the whole mass. Mucus strands from locomotion and filter-feeding do not appear to be toxic.
Seems like anemone waste removal is a recommended practice. Who wudda thunk it?

Well, I'm sitting here thinking to myself that us reefers have hit an all time low with this thread.

Someone delete this thread fast, before anyone finds out that we're all looney!

No, it's fine - I used to fish out carpet poop too... not going to argue the merits of removing such gross waste from a closed system.

It's just... well, the anemone-butthole-syphoning sequence was a bit too much for my sensitive nature. Certainly one of the oddest things I've seen on video.

But for instructional value - hey - it can't be beat.

what kind of turbo? snail is that to the right of the RBTA in the video. I have 2 of them and have not seen a pic of them anywhere that I can find.

Great video by the way!!

PhatSOB,

Geez, don't know what kind of snail it is. Some kind of turbo or astrea, but I can't remember now. Must be old age

Quagmire 08-30-2006 03:51 AM

Looks like an astrea.something similar to this maybe?
