Yeah Steve maybe you shouldn't have plumbed your sump into your new pad's
sewer line

Sorry, but I don't understand the purpose of this poll. The amount of skimmate doesn't tell us anything without knowing all the variables involved. And there are a lot of variables to consider. Can someone please explain what I am missing?

Saltysteve 04-07-2005 07:22 AM

There's not that many variables. Don't make things so difficult

OK. For three days worth of skimmate, I would be in the 240mL + category. What does it mean?

danny zubot 04-07-2005 01:51 PM

How big is your tank and what kind of bio load do you have?

whatever 04-07-2005 07:27 PM

That's my point. Without knowing all the varibles, the amount of skimmate doesn't mean anything. That's why I don't understand this poll and the reason for my original question.

I agree. And we don't even know what variables we would need values for. I feed lots of Mysis. My skimmer will get more than a comparable tank feeding flake. Well, depends how much flake vs. the biomass consuming it, and how much waste that biomass excretes.

food, flow, temp, lighting, alage production, biomass, respiratory rates of the biomass, heterotrophic vs. autotrophic biomass, photosynthesis rates, the list goes on.

Ideally I rate my skimmer on black goo per every change time (which is never the same). I have values of "not much" "a fair bit" and "real lots"

SeaHorse_Fanatic 04-07-2005 07:47 PM

Zero mls per year.

Don't use skimmers  Use Macro instead. Nobody has offered to buy or trade for my skimmate.

Totally KISS.

I'm the same. I can tell when somethings not right in my system, but I can't see how me telling someone how much skimmate I have over a 3 day period will have much meaning to anyone else.
