Question about the livestock pages.

Everything currently says out of stock. Is that going to be updated at some point, or is this just a new feature that was un-used in the previous web experience? I know the new and noteworthy highlights some things that just came in, but even the mainstays like snails and hermits show OOS.

And more onto a planning list of sorts, say there are things you would like to buy but they're definitely not stocked in the store right now. Do you get on some type of order list, or is it just call every few weeks and ask if _____ has come in?

- Our new shopping cart system requires us to list our livestock in this way. If we changed it to "in-stock" we would constantly receive orders for animals we didn't actually have. To date, we have not accepted livestock orders via our online shopping cart system, but we do hope to one day implement that in the future.

- We have a livestock waitlist that we can add you to. To get added to that, simply call or email that request over. We notify people in a first come first served basis as livestock arrive.

Thanks for the questions!

Great, thanks for the explanation Jeff.

Theres one more thing that your site is desperately missing. There should be a Company Information page! J&L was a pioneer in the Canadian online aquarium supply industry (for saltwater at least). Under one owner or another you guys have been around for a pretty long time and have always held a great selection at a competitive price. So how about a Mission Statement? A little history lesson or just something somewhere on your website to let everyone know that you weren't dreamed up yesterday?

Saw it somewhere once Russell
Damned if I can find it now

whatcaneyedo 02-18-2016 03:27 AM

I was looking all over the site today as well. I wanted to tell someone about it, how long the business has been around... but there was nothing there. The old site had an About Us page of some sort but I don't think they transferred the information over.

Knew I saw it somewhere recently
Under brands, go to Shlobster ... I know, strange place for it to have landed.
I'll let Jeff know.

Good find. That was a very odd place to put it. An explanation that Schlobster is their in-house brand like Kirkland is Costco's would be more appropriate. Somewhere under Company Information at the bottom of the site would be a better place for whats there.

I am not to happy with the execution of the new J&L website using Magento as the ecommerce solution. I think to benchmark it , other sites say like NCIX (proprietary system ) and their offshoots ( eg Bestdirect, but uses off shelf solution ) uses other options which would have been easier and nicer to do. ( eg Sunshop)... I know there are thousands of products to enter and enter it with dozens of fields but the outer looks could be improved or look at other ecommerce solutions. Marinedepots site is pretty good, but again, it is proprietary and they have the staff to do it... i would have done more study to see what is out there instead of magento.
