New tank has arrived! I'll post some pictures this weekend. This tank is 48x28x24h with 3 side ultra clear glass, euro braced and I will be running a bean animal overflow for a quiet and worry free drain. I am pretty excited to get it going, plumbing parts are all in order and ready to go thanks to wheelman for ordering that for me, now all I need is my other friend to get me a couple of cut glass for the sump and I'll be set...cough cough. Okay enough bs, pictures will be up soon.

And if that doesn't work for you, just order it from Wayne, the owner of Candu Glass on Douglas. Cash is the Boss You can pick it up on your way home, or I can grab it for you if you work too late |

New tank http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...pscjhsncjo.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psjrqvno9n.jpg Size is 48x28x24h Boys at concept really did a great job on the glass work, one piece euro brace, polished everything thing. It's friken awesome! Some more pics http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1mizfl7m.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psqpb9irti.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psfbxpgjve.jpg |
Very nice, I know that stand :)
It also looks like that might not be the proper place for it, get it inside and get it wet |

simple sump design just like the one on the 300. Plumbing time http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psz1amg53l.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psfa6jzuwe.jpg After I did the plumbing I sat back and thought to myself why is the drain on the inner part of the tank where its block and not the other side where its wide open....fak Here we go round 2...lol I like to measure once and cut twice I guess. on my defence, it was hella late at night and I wasn't thinking straight. Final version http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...pscd7mkzs2.jpg |
Removed the bottom plywood that came with the tank (thanks Denny) I am going barebottom so I wanted to put a white vinyl wrap on the bottom instead of ugly plywood. Went to HD and Rona for vinyl but no one had a clue what I was asking. After a round of aimless searching I found a roll of 12 dollars window vinyl that worked perfect for the job. YES!!!
Here is a picture of the tank on its side. http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psggyddqfx.jpg |
One evening while we were out I had a 30-40 gallons spill with the 300 so I decided to do something in case this happens again. I need the sump area to have the ability to hold 5-10 gallons of water. I was contemplating between fibre glassing, vinyl enclosure, water proof paint than I came across a product called liquid rubber. Its none-toxic and aquarium safe, people use it to seal plywood tanks and the best part is it's made in Canada!
Sold at home hardware store and its reasonable pricing. 16-24 per pint for a 24x24 foot print. http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psocdge4vn.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...pszwzlma2v.jpg |
Full shot
http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...pswokmtrd0.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0oy0id1c.jpg I was thinking about using these velocity stackers for the return but upon closer inspection I think they will limit flow rate so opted not to go with them. http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psjvta7izn.jpg |
Water testing done!

looks sick! !!.
tank from concept looks perfect. Great idea on the vinyl bottom and sealing up the sump area. how long before water ?? keep it up |
Rock work is gonna be as simple as it gets. I am going with the way less is more approach.
Thanks to my friends Chris and Peter for your helping! http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psxsvhpmcr.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psz3kvsv61.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0ixdqbcx.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psnettup5g.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psxtgvsin5.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psiialus78.jpg |

So the thought behind this build...
Macro rocks-no pest Low fish load-one achilles, one yellow, sunbrust anthias, pair of black ice clowns and inverts. (subject to change) Coral-sps dominate(fresh cuts only) LPS....I don't know...maybe. Bare-bottom-easy to maintain. Current-Lots of flow. Take it slow and do it right. |
BTW, I am running 6 bulb T5 for now.
Thoughts or any constructive input from anyone is welcomed. . |
Looks great rich!!
No such thing as taking it slow for bblinks :) |
Looks good, you're not kidding about the less rock idea :)
Will you run pellets? |

So I just finished reading your thread!!! Better than any bestseller I've read :thumb:
LOL took me about 3 days... I'd steal a bit of reading time whenever I could. Got off work last night at midnight and finally had to stop readying at 2:30am LOL You had me sitting on the edge of my seat whenever you were met with a sudden crisis... I felt the sweat... rode the rollercoaster with you... and had to re-read 3X a few pages back when suddenly everyone was talking about the 'tank that was'. All I could think was... WHAT DID I MISS!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! :hurt: Your 300DD was INSANE!!! I have been drooling over the pictures... even saved some. You are such an inspiration, an ambassador... you have set the bar to the upper limits in the sky!!! And I am thrilled you are coming back!! :whoo: I hope to meet the 'MASTER' one day... And I am so looking forward to reading about your new build  BOOK 2 begins :typing: PS.. Chris send me the link to your thread a while back but never got around to it. Then saw your thread recently under new posts. Chris you were right!!! :)) |
Yah met rich awhile back when he first set up the 300, then was over helping with the scape on the new tank.... Can't wait to see it grow over the next year!
