Hey Doug!

What goes into your water on a daily basis or at water change time? Whats your trick? You have nice polyp extension and wide variety of colours, and what looks like great growth.

+1 Yeah inquiring minds want to know! My polyp extension is non-existant

Doug the tank is looking awsome. Glad to see you still had some really nice pieces left when the tank went wonky on ya.

Is this the same acropora you sold me?

Enzyte....the once a day pill for natural enhancement:biggrin: The commercial was true... the gals really noticed my PE:mrgreen:......

No tricks....I follow the directions on the bottles:lol: IMO the biggest things are a stable and correct "big three" (Ca, Mg and DKH).... My KZ dosing regiment(I wish I could say "I dont think it has made a difference", but I really think it has)....and the fact that the tank is a year and a half old....

I dose "Randy's recipe" for the "big three", Calcium(in the morning) and DKH (in the evening) every day, Magnesium every two to three days.

KZ dosing is as I said before...by the bottle. K-balance, B-balance, Strontium Komplex, Xtra, Coral Snow, Coral Vitalizer, Sponge Power, Amino Acid Kaliumiodid-flour, and Stylo-Pocci Glow

Right on DOugs thanks again. I broke the bottom off of it to try mounting it flat on a frag discs and am getting a whole bunch of new growth coming off it. Should be a really nice full piece in a year or so.

Probably less than that:twised: grows really fast for me.

BlueAbyss 10-04-2009 07:06 PM

I seriously need to get some SPS into my tank... You're making me jealous, your corals look awesome!

Myka 10-06-2009 03:03 AM

Looking good Doug! Like already said, great PE. ;)

Have you tried the Zeo PIF and/or Iron yet? I'm considering trying one or both to help with green hues.

I like when you talk reef-dirty Mindy:twised:

No, I havnt tried either one....Thought about trying the Iron ....but there is a little voice in the back of my head that says "dont feed the algae"...maybe Im just paranoid.....finally got rid of the vast majority of all the algaes in the display....except for some halimeda....but thats easy enough to pic out when it needs it, so I leave it.....

I must give props where they are due....Gary, our tank guy rocks....knocked out my sump in a time I probably shouldnt post....and left a bill Im extremely happy with.....Thanks Gary

So here it is, in all its shiny, clean, new glory.....54"l x 15 1/2"w x 15 1/2t..... 4" longer, 3 1/2" wider and 5" shorter than the old sump....my system volume will increase by 8 gallons and I will be able to work in the sump alot better.

Same layout as the last sump...left side fuge(thinking Im gonna put a deep sand bed in this one....nut sure...waffling big time), center is the return section and the right side is skimmer

Thanks guys.....you should see it ....well ...installed...I dont know, but for some reason it looks soooo much better than the old one.

I cut and installed a small shelf for my high tech dosser (a la Snappy). I was balancing the dosing cup on the edge of the old sump, but I think this will work out better for me. You will have to use your imagination ... the shelf is upside down and backwards, as it was still drying when I snapped the pics.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMGP3538.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMGP3538.jpg

Heres the shelf installed, both before the sump was filled and installed and after.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMGP3542.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMGP3551.jpg

And the dosing shelf in action:biggrin:
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMGP3552.jpg

with the longer and wider sump, came an additional problem.... My cluster f of products and test kits and food supplements etc, etc ,etc, that were around and beside the sump would need a new home....this makes the g/f very happy:lol:
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMGP3547.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMGP3548.jpg

Ive already found that this sump is much easier to work in and around. Another plus is, the new sump has 1/2 rigid foam schtuck to the bottom that has greatly reduced the noise caused by pump vibration....Again....happy g/f:biggrin:

Delphinus 10-10-2009 04:09 AM

Can you explain to me how the dosing cup works? Sorry if I'm just dense and not getting it. I see a cup on the shelf with a hole in it. Do you just dump the whatever into that, and let it just drain at its own rate, or is it something more involved?

lastlight 10-10-2009 04:09 AM

Holy crap your display is off the hook man!

Tell me you're not drip-dosing from a cup? How can you keep it dripping anything for long...cup must empty fast!

Thanks Brett

Thats petty much it:mrgreen:..... it takes 2-3 minutes for the cup to drain....at 350ish gph on the fuge side(where the dosing station....ya dosing station:biggrin: is) that should be.....well..... the math is hurting my brain:biggrin:...I figure its better than just dumping it all in at once:wink:

Pretty hi-tech huh?

Delphinus 10-10-2009 04:25 AM

What's the new thing coming?

Thanks for the explanation re. the cup. I thought maybe there was some complicated thingamabob dispensing some set amount into the cup and the draining from there. I guess the complicated dispensing thingamabob in this case just happens to be you :p

Where'd you get that last piece... it looks ALOT like the piece I was gonna give you a frag of from the Aussie shipment awhile ago... except yours is missing the green base?? or is it a completely different specie? growth pattern looks very similar

fishytime 10-12-2009 02:44 PM

You nailed it bud....that is one of those Aussie frags....I took two home from that shipment and we just got a half a dozen more on Friday that all went into the display.....well almost all:wink: I grabbed one that had some xenia growing on the frag.....so out came the dremel, off came the xenia and it looks gooood in da tank:biggrin:....will snap a couple pics later today when the lights come on.
