Woops sorry not %50 i must be sleeping lol but its a fair bit for sure:)

I can see Facebook sites taking over pretty quick it's only gonna take one in Calgery and a few in bc.
|
A Facebook site just isn't the same as a forum. For exposure of the company and their wares, sure. But for hobbyists, not even close. I am not privy to all the background workings of the forum but it is definitely a loss for the community whenever we lose a vendor.

I had actually decided to pick you, Denny, as my replacement, but then you joined Dave and a conflict arose. Keener is part time on some forums, but he's too smart to take my job :) As for the business side of things, while some are leaving, new ones are coming on board. It's always been that way. I have no idea what the rates are, I didn't know they went up, and I haven't heard any reasons for changes. We'll have to wait and see how things go. I know for Titus, this is simply a business, and if it fails to earn him a profit, I'd imagine he'd shut down or sell. |

I also think its the stores fault, some of them were just waisting there membership fees, as some of them would never advertise anything or post pictures of orders. I do lots of group buys to non member stores and the onley reason is I cant get the pieces I want in town even after a few of us ask for stuff to be brought in. Can-reef has lots of potential it's just stores don't use it. |

There has been a decent spike in sponsorship fees which has led to a few sponsors dropping out, for concept I'm fighting with Dave to keep us here I do believe I can justify the use for canreef as a retailer but would help for sure if we knew why there was a rise, the pm myself and Dave got had no explanation. I do hope this doesn't change canreef but its sad to see so many drop out in the same time frame, I know there will always be more sponsors but some of the ones we had were there for years. Im gonna have to Start a petition called please don't take my canreef With the way online shopping is taking over the market the need for forumn shopping isn't as important and information alone wont keep canreef going long term. |

Lets start a poll |

denny i think forum shopping is a big part of online shopping. there are groupbuys that come up for new vendors that may one day become sponsers if they can get the clientele, which brings income. (mad jelly/big show) these are two shops that i come to know from canreef. Quote:
haha i thought same |

Some off these new stores were even nice enough to donate to marine aquaria, frag/swap |

I'm all for forumns trust me lol but from a business point of view the money going in has to bring a certain profit if it doesn't then it's time wasted and money. Yes not all stores use the forumns to its potential and each vendor has their own reasons for joining up , believe me no business is going to flush money down the drain they have reasons for sponsoring . Ill always be a canreef member I'm into the hobby both financially and emotionally and I'm in it to far to just duck out I treat this site like a full time job first thing in the morn and last thing at night I do lol would you believe I get sometimes 50 emails a day, I've seen some changes though and I look st the number of members now compared to when I joined.....not a whole lot more its always been in the eight thousand and I think we can do better, more members means more business for sponsors , more business means money well spent, lately there hasn't been a whole lot of new peeps active on the site and I think this has to do with some of the major stores dripping out let's face it the reason most of us found canreef was through either a lfs or respected member, if both of those are gone then so the member numbers drop. Part of this is also online business don't have that face to face communication so referencing to a forumn doesn't happen :( |

hmm.. I have three 5 gallon pales of chemicals coming in next week from BRS. My office receptionist will be receiving it most likely. I hope she doesn't call the Feds.. but then she's used to receiving random boxes marked, "LIVE ANIMALS" with my name on it so it might be OK. Stay tuned!

Can't believe it!!! My wife has banned me from using her Facebook account to join the Canreef group on Facebook. What up with that!

I don't see why the responsibility of paying the bills of the website should fall on the Vender Sponsors alone. We all use this site for our benefit/knowledge.
If keeping Canreef around means introducing a membership fee so be it. Make it tiered and depending which tier you fall grants you permissions for the forum. As an example. Prices are just pulled out of my arse. Same with the per month thing.. just an example. $5/month Tier 1 - General browsing $10/month Tier 2 - General browsing/Post a Build Thread/Browsing Marketplace $15/month Tier 3 - Full Access. Post/Make Threads in Marketplace, etc. If the site owner doesn't want to incorporate a Membership Fee that's fine, but maybe consider a Paypal/Fundit Donation link somewhere that is clearly visible. Some people may not donate at all and that's fine but I bet some people would donate monthly, even if it was only $5-10. It would be extra income to help offset costs and take some of the responsibility off the Vendors who choose to be on here and help keep their costs down. We have that sort of system on my Gaming Clans forum and it works well. |
Why is everyone talking about CanReef "not being around" or such. Is this just rumor from the coffee room (Lounge)? I haven't seen anyone with behind the scenes knowledge acknowledging any sort of lack of funds.

Chicken little sydrome.
|
 I think so...

Denny sorta does have little chicken legs come to think of it.

A few main vendors pulling out is a good way to force Titus to lower the fees to encourage more vendors to join. Online vendors are more likely to pay the fees because their sales tend to spread over a larger area. LFS outside of BC and AB would probably never see the $1600 per year vendor fee ever come back to them because the main member base is BC and AB. However, we've all been seeing more Ontario activity in the last couple years, so this is great! :) I believe Ontario members are mainly on RC where I think the vendor fees are around $3000 per year. If we can continue to get more Ontario activity at CanReef there could be a huge surge of Ontario vendors.

which is good we need access to some of the candy out there. i think it's the vanacker trickle down effect.
