With today's cost of living, how on earth does a single income family with 2 kids afford to buy a house, let alone afford to pay rent in bc... Maybe I should have become a drug dealer instead of making an honest living....

I hear you man, Times are tough

Alberta did you know your bus drivers make more then a Paramedic? Maybe instead of having trained medical professional responding to 911 calls while under staffed and less then ideal working conditions start sending Taxi's and Bus Drivers... But Yay for Alberta and AHS having a 100M Surplus this year and giving all the higher ups huge bonuses but still cutting Nursing positions and not filling Emergency Services staffing needs and providing any incentive for anyone to remain in the industry EMS wise.

:)

Thought I would add a "vent" as well haha.

Ya something seems wrong about that

spit.fire 07-16-2013 09:15 PM

It's also seems like companies no longer care about how hard you work, how fast and how good of quality, wage seems to be based on who has what tickets and it doesn't matter how sh**** your work is

Like at my work, the a level welders are generally the worst producers with the lowest quality of welds yet that make significantly more than a redneck with no tickets who can weld circles around the a level guys and never fail a weld test

HaZRaTTy 07-16-2013 09:16 PM

I think that's why you see a lot of single income families with government assistance. Even with 2 incomes and a family money is tight with rising housing costs and inflation of everything.

I find Alberta is geared towards the Rigs and Oil industry and if you are not tied in and working in them making ridiculous amounts of money then you're left behind trying to catch up.

- With the increase of businesses looking for staff and the rising population trying to fill the jobs especially in Alberta the work ethic is horrible in these places due to the fact that why would Joe Blow work his ass off for the same pay if and when he gets fired he can apply to the next place over and be hired the next day. Eventually the economy will implode and we will have a under educated lack of leadership that results in nothing. Oh wait? Do we have a Prime Minister now if we do who is it? Is it the guy that hasn't made any decisions and spends his time travelling around the world still doing absolutely nothing.

Last time I asked the government for help I got screwed over, wife went on maternity leave and they tried to make us pay it all back because a mistake they made with the paperwork

Depends on what company you work for, my mother inlaw makes more than 28$/hr as a bus driver

Sorry dude, but if you want I can show you my pay cheque that is not accurate that's taking the average wage between employees? What is that based on seeing everything was Private and AHS is still taking over services and equalizing hourly wage between different services. Meaning some places are being wage frozen?

Off the City of Edmonton Website for 2012

Salary Range and Benefits
The rates quoted are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 569 and the City of Edmonton. Current (2013) rates of pay are:

Training Rate - $20.65 per hour
Post Training Rate - $25.39 to $31.74 per hour

This is a permanent position with a probationary period of up to 6 months. Benefits will begin 90 days after your start date.

It may have been a little of an exaggeration but I believe the EMT starting wage is around 26$ an hour so it maybe not be more but its close!

No worries dude, I really don't want to see you pay check but bottom line is EMTs make more than bus drivers, that's all I was pointing out. Not trying to debate political garbage that I really don't care about. We can all compare our salaries to a lot of people and quickly become frustrated with the assumption we're under paid. All this information is published and we all make our own beds.

Also my understanding is most EMTs are just technicians and not actual paramedics and there's big difference between the two which could explain why EMT starting wages aren't great.

I think this thread needs a bump

So today on my way home I seen a total of 8 deer and 6 yotes.... Hit 2 deer and 2 coyotes

Deer were fine, by the time I hit them I wasn't moving very fast. They both got up and walked away.

I miss the days when people could just be people. I am so tired of all this posturing and keeping up with the Jones' crap. What happened to just being a nice decent person with good values? In short, why do so many people seem to assume their personal value is equatable with their networth or paycheque? This goes double for ladies in their 20s and 30s - seriously what is with this frenemy jealousy?

/rant

That's the age ladies are trying to make a name for themselves. Worked with one associate that was sleeping her way up the corporate ladder and she spared no one in her way, especially wives. She was all about image, needless to say, she didn't last long. I also have a neighbor who is exactly as you describe, judges everyone in our culdesac and thinks he sets a bar of standards we should all strive to meet. This guy is a drunk and *******, so I don't even acknowledge him. I live for my family and couldnt care less what others think.

Hopefully they figure it out....

Supply and demand. I remember when ORA Red Planet was $80-$100 a frag!! Now people virtually give RP frags away.

Why is a building, when it's construction phase is done, still called a building, instead of a built ?

Because once its built, you are constantly fixing, adding on, modifying, servicing and did I say fixing??? New buldings are the worst!
And a built just sounds weird!

daplatapus 07-27-2013 04:50 AM

If it's 1 goose and 2 geese, shouldn't it be 1 moose and 2 meese?

That shoddy construction keeps us engineers employed

What about 1 mouse and 2 mice, but 1 PC mouse and 2 PC mouses ?

Or, why, if you want to make something drier, you use a dryer ?

kien 07-27-2013 05:19 AM

It's because people now a days are greedy and want to get all they can for things these days instead of trying to insure something that they have cultivated from there original purchase lives on else where just in case there's dies or melts. I only know of a couple other people who have given frags to others for cheap or even free to keep going in a different tank.

Personally I think its a bit of a joke, ya sure you paid a high price for a few heads but once they grow to a nice colony and you can frag off a few dont expect me to pay threw the arse for them.

Rant over..............

blacknife 07-27-2013 01:19 PM

got home last night.. my tank looked off.. some corals bleached.. could not figure it out.. till bedtime when the lights did not go out...

put the timer to the on position when i was catching the blenny last weekend..

5 days of lights on for the tank.. doh..

chef 07-29-2013 06:40 PM

Finally a day off

After working 7 straight in a very busy Whistler restaurant, I find myself with a day off. I have been chilling watching my reef for hours!!!

spit.fire 07-29-2013 08:18 PM

Seems like I only get sick on my days off

3 t3s a day only slightly curbed the migraine

So I found out on Thursday that the company I work for is most likely going to sponsor one of the welders to get his red seal fab ticket instead of me because they want to keep me at the shop because I'm their biggest producer.... Seems kind of backwards because the way I see it if I don't get it they'll probably lose me from the shop.
