Total system volume will be close to 530 gals when done. 3 display tanks ( 300 gal, 60 gal & 35 gal) 2 sumps ( 100 gal & 35 gal ) all in one huge wall unit.

ckmullin 04-14-2013 06:15 AM

Lots of work.

I'll stick to my 6 gal for now. Huge 15 gal sump. :)

To do or not to do........or should I say to start or not start my 300 gal tank journal...........as it will be a bit of a long build to completely finished.

Just update the new journal every week with highlights.

Might not be anything to update weekly though. I don't like a tank journey that starts with lots of stuff then goes dry with mindless post if you get my drift.

Progress photos at minimum. Build threads are nice to go through but some threads almost look like they consume as much time preparing and updating as the build its self.

Very true jorjef, it's a very complex build with 3 displays, 2 sumps, 4 piece stand, WC system & so much more.

What the hell I think I will kick off a journal tomorrow evening.

I think your build thread would have already had some very interesting moments, from spreading all that time polishing your glass to then... Well you know. Hehehe

So who do I freak out at? Hydro for knocking all my fences down and taking over 2 months to put them back up or dumba** city kids who come out here to 4x4 for taking my dogs every time they go out on the road

Common sense: dog wandering around in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farmland.... Generally one of the locals dogs... Don't f****** pick it up and take it home to your apartment 2 hours away

And to make things worse my address is on the dogs collar yet every time the dogs go missing their tags disappear

spit.fire 04-15-2013 06:55 PM

Also next time I see a 4x4 I'm the river ill probably slash their tires.... Salmon spawn in that river, there's no motor vehicles allowed in the rivers and well... I fish there...

Kids these days need a beating....

(I'm not much older than most of these guys but well... I'm not a moron)

Kryptic4L 04-15-2013 07:35 PM

my sister in law, recently smoked a farmers dog on the highway. the farmer seemed unphased by another dog getting hit on the highway.

2 weeks later, same situation another dog sitting by the entrence of the same farm, probably waiting for its time to run out on the highway into another vehicle.

if your dog is being stolen off your land, well thats an issue, if your dog is wondering off your land and being stolen, from what sounds like a common occurence, maybe its time you keep your dogs closer.

Proteus 04-15-2013 08:01 PM

I had my Akita stolen. A week later I saw him being walked by a couple. When I approached then the tags were still on him. The people were a lil stunned when I was done with them

jorjef 04-15-2013 08:51 PM

It was the early 70's, we lived in a Saskatchewan town of 10,000 people, we had three T.V stations one Minot, one Regina and the other was Yorkton. **** still happened in the world we just never heard about it in a nano second via the media, I miss those days...

If the losers of the world knew they wouldn't get their instant gratification of seeing and hearing of their acts via the main stream media we would have less of these situations. But now they get days upon days of never ending coverage, victims get 30 seconds if that......... SHUT UP RADIO AND T.V, WE KNOW ABOUT IT. For me I don't care to know the reason why, it's done what else needs to be said.

Ever notice that people on Craigslist take normal undrilled tanks, say they're saltwater tanks, and jack the price up an extra 300$ from the typical used sale value?

lockrookie 04-17-2013 01:49 AM

If only I could get away with this and make it a reef and not lose my living arrangements at the same time

I wish our main office was in edmonton instead of calgary so i didnt have to live in a hotel for a week while im trying to cycle my tank cuz of courses.

Kryptic4L 04-18-2013 07:03 PM

Wondering what the heck happens behind the scenes, fish pricing is all over the map.

Edmonton has power blues for 60 bux and mysteries for 100. Calgary is 80 and 120 for the same fish.

Pieces can double or triple the average cost on some fish, however have one fish that is 50 dollars cheaper then j&l..

Delphinus 04-18-2013 07:09 PM

It goes back to that old saying that something is only worth what someone else will pay for it. In this case the stores are pricing them at what they know they will likely get.

Things have changed in cycles over the years but for LFS's right now, seems to me Edmonton has more competition than Calgary does. Plus Calgary seems to have enough of a market share of people willing to just pay whatever in order to get what they want, maybe Edmonton has more discerning customers who do their homework..

banditpowdercoat 04-18-2013 11:28 PM

High on paint fumes. Stand will be refinished too. But in place... Gona be a bit more difficult.

our powder blues at concept aquatics are $55.00 each and our mystery wrasses are $100.00 while im sure i could get more as pb's in town go for closer to $80 bucks we price them the same way we price anything , not based on what we can get but a general markup by percentage based on cost , so if cost is reasonable and the markup never changes then the product stays at a good price.

my price on a juvie emperor angel was 79.99 while big als just right next door to us was 189.99..............huge difference, but after seeing this one would think i should mark the price up but its not like that ,not to us anyways, we took the cost plus all other costs and applied our retail markup which is the same for fish and for corals and the price was $80......no need to get greedy right:)

i think youll find mark up on fish isnt regulated and is sure to change from store to store , as always its up to the consumer to shop for best prices and make their purchases based on knowlege learned.

cheers

THIS is how a business should run. Markup a set rate. Not what can I get for it. The world would be a better place and everyone, buisnesses' included would be better off. The What will the market bear is BS. I could charge way more for my powdercoating, but I charge a fair labour/materials rate and customers keep coming back, I'm improving the world and making money at it. If I charged what they would pay, I would have less customers in the long run and make less.

I seen that bck when I was 20, Ohh 20 years ago (dating myself I know) The Night Club I worked in had us change how we made Paralyzers. More coke than Milk. Cause milk was too expensive they said. I did the math. We lost lots of sales, mine included BC the Paralyzers tasted like crap. Then they said, well were not sellin and makin enough, we have to raise prices!. heres a concept, lower prices a little and get double the business!!!

fishoholic 04-19-2013 01:47 AM

It also depends on where you ship the fish in from. Indo fish are way cheaper then fish shipped in from other parts of the world, but unfortunately they are usually not as healthy. Also I know people who ordered the fish in Large size so they paid more up front for the fish but then when they got the fish it was small. There are also different fish at different times of the year that are easier or harder to get in which will affect the price.
