Sitting at work doing xperf boot trace timings. If you know what that means, you know how much it sucks

Having slow boot problems? Are you picking through profiles trying to find the culprits.

ckmullin 02-17-2013 05:12 PM

I cannot respect adults who use the phrase 'tickety-boo' or for that matter people who don't put butter topping on popcorn!!!!!

No just a 20ish hour long QA assessment of a new image build on new hardware. 15 hour day yesterday -lol

32 iterations of boot trace as part of the performance eval..

Fun.... guess you can't just fire up a big script that handles all interventions and exceptions....

Oh ya, I've automated it and have autologon enabled, but half are in a disconnected state and we sometimes see errors (folder redirection, etc) come up where we need to intervene anyway. Mostly it's sit and watch it reboot. Then compile the data for median start up time. The other 15 hours is clicking everything and extensive scenario testing. Melt your brain kind of stuff. But it's all OT, so I'm happy :)

OT?? Well, of course you don't want to automate it too much... And here I thought you were some senior mgr that was doing this so he didn't have to pay his staff OT...

Reality comes from the inception of a bombastic thought built in a fantastic unrealistic realm dealt out onto a whimsical playground called life for us to believe or not to believe......calmtastic can't survive there.

I'm only going to say this one last time & only because I'm a little annoyed...........I wish there was a way to have the edit feature in the buy & sell section & only for the OP. that way they could add the "pending" or "sold" to an item on there first post. Now I know it's gone & gone for good, I can live with it but if you can't be bothered to read the last post of the OP in there FS thread then don't bother sending a PM about items that are clearly labeled & updated.

Ok.....I feel a little better......but only a little.

I would PM a mod and ask them to add "Pending" or "sold" to your sale post in the body or the title itself if your thread has spun a few pages. I agree that this visibility is helpful :-). If the sale thread is just a page it's not as big a deal but if it has spun several pages then this does tend to happen often.

Maybe its time to have it closed off and star a new thread with what is left. There are a lot of items & most are sold or pending to people I know are good for it & there's only a few thing left.

Besides I needed to vent a little before I ripped some random limb off someone

But you can't close threads. It'll still linger in the for sale forum :-)

Ah ya right, maybe get mods to add " read OP last post!! "

ckmullin 02-18-2013 07:56 PM

Why not move the buy/sell topic once done to an 'archive' area. People can still read that area but no posting allowed. Archiving will be work but it'll make the general buy/sell area clean and neat.

When a topic is done ie all items sold...the member must inform buy/sell mods. Then at that point it will be transfered into the archive.

This might be more work than allowing a member to edit posts to add 'completed' 'sold' but will make a buy/sell forum clean with new items only. Of course this is a big suggested change...if that idea isn't liked someone @ sometime has to put in 'sold' in the topic title!

I'm not sure which staff member is going to do that. I know it's not me, and I have more time than the others. Sooo :)

This is really in the category of "first world problems" and not really worth the effort going on about it.

2 feet of tubing short to fire up the new inline frag tank. #@%$#$

On a good note, 12 years owning clownfish, and tonight they're laying eggs.

That sucks! I hate when you get so close to finishing something then run out of materials.

That's cool about the clowns though.

fishoholic 02-19-2013 03:22 AM

Drove 4-5 hrs to get to Banff on Sunday, worth it for a mini mountain holiday get away. Must admit I'm not looking forward to the drive back

My only option is to chop up my expensive water change hose, and that ain't happening!! I'll grab more at lunch tomorrow, should have water (and frags) in it tomorrow night.

Did your tank leak or was it from something else?

The "problem" is that the first world is lazy :-). If in perusing the Buy/Sell it would be more efficient if I didn't have to click on the thread to see if it has been sold. A "Sold" sign on the title would go a long way in helping with my laziness.

However, I do agree with the no edit policy on this forum as archival record of items sold and their values is helpful for reference.

:deadhorse:

The way I see it, if someone has no time or energy to click on something that might be a great deal for them, how are they ever going to get out of bed to go buy it?? lol
And for staff to do more to compensate for "lazy" just isn't gonna happen. We're all pretty lazy ourselves :)
