Yup, thats what I was thinking. I can only imagine what would have happened if the glass around the bulkhead cracked. That happened to me when I was transporting a 75 gallon with a downpipe sticking out. Went through a door frame and downpipe hit the side. Cracked the whole bottom pane.

I didn't think I was gonna make it but again thanks to everyone who helped out. Great reefing community we have here in BC.

There would have been an inflex of extra live stock at JL aquatics for sale if that wouldve happened.

Tell me about it, Wayne and I were just talking about all the darkness looming over the BC reefing community lately. Oh well, like I said there isn't problems only solutions.

good job sticking through it - looks like you owe some guys some high end frags :D

That will be taken care of. Funny when I visit those guys on the island I brought back a whole bunch of frags too. Jeez, you know you are an addict when.

Your going to have take your son Chris under your wing and teach him everything you know about Saltwater tanks . That way these problems are taken care of before you come home from work.

I'm not useful for much, but I can usually lift heavy-ish things if you need

mikepclo 03-01-2013 10:20 PM

Damn Rich, Sorry to hear what happened. I'm only few Hwy exits away if you need anything.

Reef Pilot 03-01-2013 11:38 PM

Wow, I'm in Maiu right now, and thought I'd take a peek at Canreef, and this is what I see!! Glad to hear it's under control, though, for now. I would offer my help too, if needed. I will be back end of next week.

You have a genuine treasure there, Rich, with your tank and frags. Would be a terrible loss if you had a crash. Hopefully, it will end well.

Again, if I can be of any help, please let me know.

Bblinks 03-05-2013 09:37 PM

So guys, it has been a week and a half-ish since the sump started leaking. I have finally got every thing circulating again. I must say it has been a trail and tribulation week for me. So many late nights looking at the tank and thinking about shutting it down but I just couldn't do it.

Now everything is running again, I'll have to stablize the whole system. Last night when I check the parameters it was at a all time low.
Calcium 320
Alkalinity 5.2
Magnesium 1150

I also had to clean out my biopellet as the whole bacteria mass has died off. I washed the pellets then palced them into some ro water over night and reused it. I didn't think it was a big deal to reuse, seem like a waste to toss it but I could be wrong...

Anyways.... here is the fun part, New Sump.

The new sump is built by H2O in Victoria and let me tell you it is beefy. The measurement on it is 50X30X16.5 and it's made from 1/2 inch glass all around.
http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4377de5a.jpg
My wife was nice enough to pick it up for me. Props to Derek at H2O for helping her lift it into the rav. I had a few friends over to help me move this little beast into position but man she is heavy. I under estimated the width of my door and had a real pain in the butt time getting it through but we did it.

Here is a picture of Greg ZZ4 helping me cut off the old bulk head. Thanks man!
http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8018d657.jpg

Here is the sump dry fitted.

http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psbf0c6b6e.jpg

http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...pscf92f6c7.jpg

http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5d70ed7f.jpg

Finally got her filled yesterday.

http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psa5cb0a68.jpg

http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4488a713.jpg

When I was filling the water we sprung a little leak out of the union by the reefflo and naturally its the other side of the ball valve. I was cursing like a sailor. It didn;t matter how hard I cranked that nut down it stil leaked. As I was getting the bat out I realize the friken ORING wasn't in there. FML, got my panties in a knot for no reason.

Lesson of the week: Patience (or forbearing) is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance/anger in a negative way; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. Patience is the level of endurance one can take before negativity

To UV or not to UV

What do you guys think, should I put my UV back in?

hillegom 03-05-2013 09:54 PM

Wow, problems right to the end
Glad the hardware is all sorted out now.
Just the water left, and for you that shouldn't be a problem.
Good work

It'll be fine, I've bought so many people's unwanted and used biopellets over the past 3 years it's not even funny! My reactor currently has 3 different types from 3 different people tumbling. All I do is what you did, rinse, dry and store for use later.

It's true though, I'm a world class BioPellet whore  .. if you get tired of your BioPellets sell them to me!!

I have no opinion on UV as I have never run a UV on a tank before.

Hey Rich, sorry to read about your troubles the last few weeks. Let me know if you need any help restocking the tank

As for UV, I'd wait a while until your bacteria level gets back up closer to normal.

Thanks but things have turn for the worst. There is a leak from the bottom corner of the tank again. FML.

Bblinks 03-07-2013 11:14 PM

Really really bad news. I am on the verge of shutting it down. Came home last night to a puddle of water. The filter sock has filled up with water and started to overfill. In the short period of time where the wife went up stairs to cook dinner it has dumped a **** load onto the carpet. I pulled out the bag and replace it with a new one thinking its solved but this morning the towers I put down are just soaked. I found a drip per sec coming off the corner of the stand on the bottom and just cant find where the leak is coming from. If this doesn't get resolved soon, I am gonna sell everything and shut her down.

dibs on the biopellets!

sorry.. couldn't resist. Sucky news man. So is the leak coming from the new sump? Hopefully it's just a fitting that needs tightening or a bit of plumber's tape.

Ginu 03-07-2013 11:54 PM

Wow... I really hope.its just a fitting.and not the tank... and Rich don't quit on us!
If there is anything I can do, just let me know.

Rich, turn off the plumbing for now and drain the sump. I will come over tomorrow night to help. I would come tonight if I can.

Cade 03-08-2013 12:16 AM

Good luck. Water can suck sometimes.

hillegom 03-08-2013 01:08 AM

I can't believe it Rich!
I hope its something simple like tightening a fitting.
Let me know if I can help tomorrow.

Aquattro 03-08-2013 01:38 AM

Coming off the corner of the stand? Or sump? Probably just a plumbing fitting. Stop with the "shutting it down" stuff. You'd be miserable.
