I may even try mixing it together with ROX to see if it will reduce the clumping.

Sure it will Greg. I mix the ROX with Kent Reef Carbon (aprox 70-30) and it helps stop the clumping.

ROX0.8 is already in a pellet format. FWIW.

Interesting. I have not had any issues with clumping with ROX. My only complaint with the stuff is that it's so small and lightweight, it works its way into the sponges of the reactor and thus when I change it out I have to spend a couple extra minutes to work back out of the sponge.

Dependent on flowrate through the reactor maybe?

Between the two tanks I'm running the ROX in a BRS reactor and a TLF reactor. There is no problem with the TLF; the BRS reactor however, does have clumping issues. It doesn't seem to matter what the flow rate, it still clumps. I give the reactor a shake every week or so and that seem to help, but it does require more maintenance than the TLF.

The Grizz 03-28-2011 12:33 AM

Well either way I will be getting some carbon in there ASAP and hopefully get another NextReef MR1 to run them in.

Ah, interesting about the BRS reactor. I've only ever tried the ROX in a TLF reactor and then a MR1 on the bigger tank (bought it originally for pellets but it didn't tumble the pellets as nice as a Vertex reactor so it was just begging to be used for carbon - but it does seem to work nice for the carbon).

fishytime 03-28-2011 02:02 AM

RC has a couple vertex reactors in atm.....but thats niether here nor there, what reactor you run it in..... just run it:razz::mrgreen:.......even just in a bag in your sump in the meantime, perhaps?.....

The Grizz 03-28-2011 03:21 AM

I am going to get some carbon, clean up my 2 - TLF 150's and get them in as soon as I can. I like the NextReef MR1 so far for my vertex pellets and would like another for carbon.

The Grizz 04-04-2011 03:27 AM

Tanks Laurie, getting a little better with my camera & it's a good thing to cause my glass is getting so scratched up that it is really hard to get a good shot through it.

Lysa.anne 04-04-2011 09:18 PM

Your tank is amazing! Nice job :)

Why thank you I am glad you think so  some days I wonder if I like it or not :twised:

lastlight 04-07-2011 10:53 PM

Some really nice zoas you have in there I'm jealous! For whatever reason I had issues with many of the first round of zoas I tried but lately they seem to be thriving. Really dig the aussie elegance as well. I'll have to do some research on them but I do want one for the new tank. It's like a nem but without the evil!

Got a recent FTS?

The Grizz 04-08-2011 01:04 AM

Thanks Brett, I have lost a few zoas for what ever reason I don't know but some of them seem to be doing very well. I was unsure about getting an elegance myself for some time but when I saw this one at Wei's I couldn't resist especially for the price he gave it to me for. And I must say it is doing great.

No new FTS as of late because my tank is getting so scratched up that it doesn't look good at all. If I can manage to get the front glass clean I will take a few shots.

lastlight 04-08-2011 01:21 AM

Alright fine but what about the replacement tank? What have you done with that piece of heavy?

The Grizz 04-08-2011 01:26 AM

Nothing as of yet with the new piece of heavy:lol: I have been working on the 116 gal ATM trying to get that done. Big tank might be on hold for a while as I have not been that busy.

Oxymoron 04-22-2011 04:53 AM

For some reason the images don't show up for me on this thread. I did see the tanks in person though and am impressed with your many projects.
Can't believe the big tank is only a year old. Looking great.

The Grizz 04-22-2011 05:14 AM

Damn Photo Bucket!! My account has been down for over a friggin week & I am getting a little P.O.ed. It was great to meet you tonight Adam, you know where I am & how to get ahold of me so anytime you need some help or info just haller.

The Grizz 04-23-2011 06:08 AM

Thanks for the compliment how you didn't get to bored, you probably learned a lot of what not to do  I have made several changes since start up, bigger skimmer, dirrerent light, controller ( still needing a doser ), added carbon recently & going to add GFO, adding an ATO. All the things I have learned will sure help with the upgrade to the 300 gal coming soon.

Nice to see there is another rod slinger here, build many a stands all the time, nice and easy projects

The Grizz 11-12-2011 04:15 AM

Thanks Tony, also found a really really nice Powder Blue a couple months back from a fellow reefer but haven't got a pic of it yet.

Really need to manage to get some pics of my Tangs. Here's a vid at feeding time tonight, can seen to get the vid to embed, any one know how to do it/

You don't even need flow in that tank so long as all your fish are moving their fins holy cow! Looks mighty impressive to see all those fish peacefully cruising the tank =)

Hustler 11-12-2011 11:12 AM

That looks really well done bro, Cant wait to see what you do with the new one :)

The Grizz 12-16-2011 03:26 AM

One of the other dusters is pure white, another is a all dark purple but I can't remember what the forth one was. I was in Calgary yesterday and just happen to stop at OC. I was just looking around at the seahorse's they had in the tank just inside the door & BAM!! There it was & $30 to boot.

Delphinus 12-16-2011 06:24 AM

A purple duster, that sounds neat! Please post a pic of it when it stops sulking or whatever..

The Grizz 12-17-2011 12:07 AM

Here's the white one, I am so glad these little fellows are some what cheap but I spent the $150 I collected from a stand
