At this point, I'm ok with that :) They're actually grazing continually, so not really too worried immediately with their refusal to eat offered foods. I have enough algae and tidbits in there to keep them going for a little while.

Oh, and FYI, I waved as I drove by your house this aft.

We're just up the road, hopefully just regular sick this time.

Aquattro 06-04-2015 03:38 AM

Ok, what's new. Added an Emperor, doing well. He likes clams. Clams now in a box, pending a decision on my part. Not sure what to do about it, sell fish, sell clams. We'll see.
MIs both doing well, eating like pigs.

Shattered a bulb 1" off the water, guess I need to turn the flow down?? lol

Still suffering a bit of algae and elevated nutrients from my feeding spree, slowly coming under control. Someone suggested dosing H2O2, may try that with my new doser, if I figure out how to work it.

Corals growing, colors coming back after my alk spike, overall just chugging along. Pics to come when I get my camera back.

Doug 06-04-2015 04:16 PM

The emperor don't pick at your sps Brad ?

No, typically SPS are safe from angels. Not always, but most reports are good. Clams aren't faring as well.
One of the MIs likes to nip every now, no big deal though

Aquattro 12-31-2015 09:16 PM

Ok, found this thing. Wow, lazy on the updates. I know, pics. I got one, crappy phone pic, will have to do.

Finally liking this tank, I see new growth daily now that I've got PO4 under control.
Made some slight changes yesterday, removed bio-pellets, added zeo back on, removed filter sock. Thinking of pulling sand for a while to stabilize nutrients.
Warren thinks I'm nuts. Perhaps.

Hoping that by July, I can't see any rock. For the most part, I've neglected this tank since day one. It was obvious.
I've recently been spending more time with it, tweaking and testing, and that too is obvious.
I hope that it continues to grow, and I can spend more enjoyable time with it rather than solving issues after they happen.

Well it looks a heck of a lot better than it did before your journal got lost! :D

Yes, and I'd say that's happened more in the last month. PO4 really shuts down growth. I have NO3 somewhere between 2 and 50, closer to 50 I'm guessing, but that doesn't seem to bother much.

Haha, yeah PO4 is the devil. Uhm, 50 is large. Why do you not have a more accurate reading?

Dipping your finger in and tasting the water isn't accurate?

Are you colorblind? Get wifey to read it. :p

Fighting too hard with nitrate. I used zeo for years and liked it, so figured why not, I have the gear, so might as well use it

maron6977 01-01-2016 05:50 AM

Ya , don't know much about zeo . Looks like expensive & lots of little additives. Always seemed like a pain , but don't know much about it .
Maybe I'll check it out more.

Oh, it's expensive and a PIA, but I found, with my lazy streak, even not following directions well, it worked great. Maybe coincidence, and I just got lucky for a bunch of years, but hey, gonna try that again :)

I do find that if I have a schedule of adding something twice a week, I tend to pay more attention to the tank. So far, I could go weeks without even looking at the coral. Now that I'm working from home, I have more time to tinker with it, and it's paying off.

Aquattro 01-04-2016 02:11 PM

As expected, the little cyano garden I've been culturing for a while is starting to take off. Guess I'll deal with that today. Guess I will hold off on water change until Wednesday (ish)

Finally got the frags off the side of my tank and mounted, and that's about all the room I have.

Living on an Island sucks some days, I have a large Tyree cap that will go in the garbage today, couldn't even give away more than a single frag. Nice 8" colony, nobody wants it here. Sad...

Still looking for that last fish to add, one that won't eat my corals. Again, island life, no fish to be bought here - lol

Delphinus 01-04-2016 03:26 PM

What's the plan to deal with it, just run a treatment, or got something else in mind?

Aquattro 01-04-2016 03:27 PM

Just run chemiclean, done in 2 days. Get it over with, get back on track.

Howie 01-04-2016 03:33 PM

Tank looks great, I like those dimensions! Lol that is really tobad you can't even give away a nice colony like that! Best of luck with the cyano

Aquattro 01-11-2016 02:23 AM

Today was 50g water change to clear out the chemiclean, cyano gone. Added 2c of carbon and hope to get my skimmer back in the game.

Adam came by and pointed out that a really nice colony that's coloring up is a Tubb's Pink Jade. Cool. Starting to really pop. I believe that's thanks to Wayne, so hey, thanks Wayne!

No issues with my sudden conversion to Zeo from pellets, haven't tested yet, but will once the sump and tank mix thoroughly.

Seeing growth daily now, which is nice. Getting back on track. Finally...

Aquattro 01-11-2016 03:14 AM

Mental note for self, record it here

Ca - 430ppm
Alk - 7.8 dKh
PO4 - 0.00ppm
NO3 - 20ish ppm

not bad.

Aquattro 02-03-2016 12:17 AM

Ok, got some pics.

Have you ever considered allowing a trace of PO4 to see if you're PO4 limited? If you are, then allowing a trace will lower NO3.

Ya, that's exactly my thought. I'm trying to feed more to bring it up and stopped the fozdown. We'll see. NO3 is dropping, so not too critical right now

WarDog 02-03-2016 05:12 AM

More photos in those last 2 posts than this entire thread. Should have got that camera sooner!

P.S. Lookin' real nice!

Ya, that Olympus TG-4 looks like a pretty sweet little camera! I was just looking at it...that little P&S camera can shoot in RAW! Crazy! I have a Pentax WG-II waterproof P&S which is also 16 MP and it has a SWEET 1cm macro setting, but it lacks in all other focal ranges. Still, it's cheaper than a macro lens for my Canon G9. :D It looks like the Olympus has a real good white balance setting too, and seems to rock the 6-12" focal point. I've been looking to replace my G9, and I think I found the winner. :D

Aquattro 02-03-2016 01:27 PM

Ya, it's great. They were on sale, and sold out so I got the display model for even less. It does way closer than I've shown here, I'll get some better pics once I've had a chance to play with it a bit more.

Myka 02-03-2016 02:13 PM

How's it for above water? Like outdoor pics and indoor pics? I wonder if it could replace my G9?

Not sure it's designed for above water. I did take a pic of my water bottle in macro mode, looked ok :)
But seriously, it's got every feature I can think of, and fits in a pocket. I'll be taking it to Mexico next month for general vacation pics, so I'll see then how it works. Most day to day kid pics around here are via phone
