Looks GREAT Brett, very well done indeed. Glad to see the 404 with livestock finally & very inventive light hanger, super cool.

Now get to work cleaning the rest of that mess up :twised:

BTW nice cheezie tune on the vid

lastlight 11-28-2011 03:00 AM

Thanks guys.

Mike the tank and eurobracing is 3/4" glass. The euros are 5" wide I think and the inner bracing around the bottom of the tank is strips of 1/2" thick glass I believe.

I can't remember who I saw on canreef use a pvc slider like that but I'm just a copycat =) I added an extra degree of freedom I guess. Was going to have an inner and outer sleeve for the verticals and use a peg system to set height as well but got lazy.

As for the 'cheezie tune' watch yourself them's fightin' words!

riceboy 11-28-2011 03:04 AM

Dude that tank looks sick, can't believe you've already pulled that much gunk out of your tank already

DCDN 11-28-2011 03:06 AM

Looks fantastic

f you watch the whole thing you'll see I've abandoned drawer slides finally in favour of a pvc light rack. It allows me to slide each light individually front-to-back and side-to-side. Lovin' it!
Brett things look great, nice job! I love that PVC rig for the lighting.
What a cool idea!

Parker 11-28-2011 03:21 AM

Looks great Brett.

I'm jealous of that water clarity!

lastlight 11-28-2011 03:26 AM

Thanks again!

Robb I don't even have the ROX running yet and the watchman goby is making sure he finds all the fines still left in the sand after rinising lol. It is pretty clear already tho...

On another note... sure is a nice feeling to finally turn my kole loose in some decent space. He never seemed unhappy before but the way he glides now (and the squareback too) is awesome. Nobody covers ground faster than my melanarus... he's on speed in this tank!

fishoholic 11-28-2011 03:27 AM

It's alive!

Looks great! You need more fish

Myka 11-28-2011 03:53 AM

Looks good! I love watching fish swim around in big tanks...that's something you just can't accomplish in small tanks no matter what. The light rack is brilliant...I'm going to steal that idea sometime when I can apply it. :D

Lance 11-28-2011 04:41 AM

Lookin' mighty fine Brett! I love that light rack idea.
Now grow corals grow!

lastlight 11-28-2011 04:43 AM

Both of my arms have red patches that feel like someone stabbed me with a lit cigarette. They're raised and look to be pus-filled (how's that for a visual?) I was feeling a burny itching while I was detailing all of my old rock. Some of this work involved scraping some palys and zoas off a rock I wanted them off of

Lance 11-28-2011 04:46 AM

Uh oh! Keep a close eye on that. I've never experienced it but heard some nasty stories.

Rice Reef 11-28-2011 05:29 AM

Really like the rock scaping! How did you manage to get the pieces to hold?

Only have a 2 year old+ phoenix over the tank for kicks till the rest of my gear arrives. Made taking shots tough so I had to turn on the fugly florescents. Room's still FULL of junk too so picture-taking room's at a premium :twised:

Dude. That's genius. That's exactly what I was looking for. Consider that idea stolen. Well, borrowed with credit anyway.

Lance 11-28-2011 05:16 PM

How are the arms today?

My spots are more itchy than painful. They look redder but only because the areas around them seem to have calmed down. My right arm has more and they're larger. It was in the water longer. What baffles me is these are point-source looking things almost like I got bit. I don't recall the rocks touching my arms directly so why are my arms simply red all over? Strange.

STANKYfish 11-28-2011 06:23 PM

Wow very nice!! There is nothing more beautiful than a BIG reef tank. Well done, your hard work shows in your tank and on your body

fishoholic 11-28-2011 07:07 PM

That's strange about your arms I hope they heal and feel better soon.

Note to self: buy reef gloves to wear when moving Doug's rock to his new tank.

globaldesigns 11-28-2011 08:03 PM

I hate you, absolutely despise you!!!! Well not really, but I sure get frustrated seeing such a beautiful tank, when mine doesn't even compare. Well done, maybe one day some of us can see this masterpiece in person?

reefwars 11-28-2011 08:08 PM

whens the grand opening to the public and how much is admission ???? do i smell xmas frag swap at bretts this year hehehe;)

lastlight 11-28-2011 08:32 PM

Haha funny! It's just big... looks like a fruit stand of frags again but if you guys wanna come see it by all means do it! Why don't we organize a calgary tank tour or something? Up close and in person you'll maybe feel a lot better as really it's nothing to write home about! Hopefully in a year it's gonna be looking like a reef again =)

Dez 11-28-2011 08:37 PM

Brett, looks awesome dude! Are those plastic zip ties holding your lights on? Are you worried they might get brittle over time?

The same zip ties are holding those massive 30lb boulders together for my largest tower so here's hoping they're built to last haha. The rockwork eventually fuses together courtesy of the sps (I learned this dismantling my 97) but yeah I may need to use some threaded bolts for the lights later good call.

fishytime 11-28-2011 11:28 PM

tre bon!.....video was cool.....song was......um......an interesting choice:biggrin:.......I was kinda wondering about the zipties too....tho I was thinking more that the heat from the light my melt right through them....

Myka 11-28-2011 11:35 PM

I for one enjoyed the music.

The plate that they mount to does not get hot I already checked into that. If they're going to fail it'd be from pure old age (they're uv resistant too).

Are you running filter socks? I was thinking of adding them, but I'm kinda lazy and the need to be changed frequently.

Yeah I had been running a very fine sock up until today. I had to rinse it several times a day it was so fine. I'm now using a more forgiving sock so the water isn't splashing down from the sock tray when I wake up. I was vacuuming my sump into the fine sock and will continue to do this with that sock in hand as part of my maintenance. Even though there's plenty of flow through the sump it's a fairly wide tank and stuff settles out in there which makes sucking it out easy as hell.
