looking good Greg, can't wait to see it in person. That is a sweet torch :)

The Grizz 09-06-2010 08:01 PM

Really need to make some change's to the rock but just need to find the time and the energy to do so. Plus the wife hate's it when I make a mess in the living room. :twised:

outacontrol 09-06-2010 08:23 PM

I went with a full KZ set-up this time, got all the bulbs from my good friends Kevin @ Red Coral Calgary.

Well not all of it looks that good  I know for sure that I still have 1 sand sifting star but there should be 2. Also have an orange spot sand sifting goby that move's and cleans sand ALL DAY LONG. He lives under the rock that is covered in GSP so I move it around once in a while to different parts of the tank.

I would like to have some more sand stars and a blue spot goby but don't think the orange spot would behave.

The Grizz 11-23-2010 04:32 AM

Short update: Have not had time to re-do my rock but everything seems to be happy and healthy. Zoa's are growing like crazy, branching hammer has some new heads growing out nice, galaxy coral is super bushy. The only thing that is weird is my GBTA has moved under a rock and wont come out. Once I have this huge project down I will get the tank back to the way it should be.

The Grizz 12-05-2010 05:04 PM

I have changed some of my bulbs to see if things get better as far as growth and polyp extension. Took out my Figi Purple and Super Blue and replaced them with some 12,000K bulbs I have never used.

So now I have a mix of Coral Lite 10,000K, Oddyssea 12,000K and New Gen 14,000K. If it looks like things are improving I will pick up some new / better quality 12,000K bulbs as the Coral Lite and New Gens are only a few month old.

Looking at getting a controller, not sure of what kind yet but it will either be an APEX or Reef Keeper. Picking up a NextReef reactor for pellets from BW and going to convert both my TLF 150's to run carbon.

Grab some ZeoVit additives from Red Coral Calgary as well.

othicx 12-05-2010 06:18 PM

they look good, I might just have to come out and see them :)

The Grizz 12-05-2010 06:21 PM

Or just come out and hang the xmas lights that my wife has been trying to get me to do for the last month but to busy, she is so ****ed at me ATM.:twised:

Triggz 12-05-2010 07:05 PM

Hey Greg! Nice new additions...you might want to keep an eye on that red knob starfish though. They are not exactly "Reef safe". They have been known to eat soft corals, clams, other starfish, etc...

Cheers!

BlueTang<3 12-05-2010 07:19 PM

+1 if you have an urchin its days/ minutes are numbered. That red knobby star will also take down that new orange linkia. I had them much on corals too.

This one came out of a full mixed reef tank with many stars and urchins without any casualties but I will keep an eye on it for sure.

The Grizz 12-05-2010 08:54 PM

WOW I have only had the different bulbs in for not even one full day and I am already seeing a difference. My Duncans are starting to come back out, Clams are happy and wide open and my cup coral is showing some polyp's again.

Clams are not fully opened yet, but great placement. Hopefully they like it and fully extend soon.

The Grizz 12-06-2010 12:52 AM

The little one keeps moving around and will not stay put. They are slowly adjusting and opening more, at least they are open

YA YA I know, the wife good camera is in the shop so I will have to take some with my crappy camera. Maybe next week I will get to it if I get caught up with work.

ALBERTA REEF 12-09-2010 03:39 AM

Ya I figured that. Have not had a lot of time for the tank but going to get at it over xmas. Going to redo the rock, add a controller, a NextReef MR1, finish my canopy, change both my TLF 150's back to carbon and put a cooling fan over my sump to help with the temp issue I have. once that is done NEW PICS WILL BE ADDED for sure.

Coleus 12-09-2010 04:08 AM

look like you are going to be busy for this Xmas

The Grizz 12-09-2010 04:18 AM

Yep not going anywhere, the family is coming here for a change and I am taking a week off for the first time in ten years. The hardest part will be the rock rework.

I lost one that looked the same sometimes they just go and die just like that.
Just my 2 cents I could be wrong.....
The rest looks great though wish I had room for a eight foot tank.

He is a new transplant, pic was taken only a few hours after being in the tank and then my retard of a orange spot goby decided it was a rock and preceded to try and move all the sand out from under it.

Marlin65 12-09-2010 04:51 AM

oh that makes sense then it is just spooked just looked kind of funny in the picture.

The Grizz 12-21-2010 11:10 PM

I finally broke down and re did the rock work over the last 2 days. Added loc-line to the returns from the closed loop, so now each return has 3 return ports and I must say I really like the flow now.

Bought a very gently used Snapper return pump for the main return. Going to take out the 1200 gph pump and put this in it place.

Also pick-up a NextReef MR1 reactor for NP Pellets but don't have enough pellets left in my TLF 150 to put in service just yet.

Next items on the agenda is a controller and some new lights. For the controller I am either going with a GHL Proflux 2ex that Ken @ BWA has or the ReefKeeper Elite. I must do a little research on the Proflux first. As for the light I am almost certain I am going to go back to MH with 2 - 48" fixtures, each fixture has 2 - 250w MH 15,000K bulbs, 2 - 54w T5 that I will put in either some KZ Coral Lite or UVL Actinic White bulbs. the fixtures also have 3 dual moon lights each.

Once I have the light's I will have to finish the canopy of the tank as my wife wants me to put a shelf above the tank just below the picture that is hanging on the wall.

So here is a FTS as of today not TOTM worth but doing my best, picture quality is crappy because I had to use my iPhone, wife's camera in the shop and I suck a photography.

Thanks Denny but I think the 2 - 250w MH will be more then enough for my depth of tank.

Delphinus 12-22-2010 12:10 AM

Looks great, I particularly like the end shot looking down the length of the tank. :)

Thanks Tony it is a work in progress isn't it.

The Grizz 01-01-2011 10:11 PM

A few new additions to the reef in the last week or so.

Added a Powder Blue Tang, could not help myself when I went in to Blue World and seen them. So nice and heathly and eating well. He is a little stressed out for the move but is doing great eating good and out in the open. Picked up another Bangii Card as well, here's hoping I get a mated pair as so as they find out each other is in the same tank:lol:.

Added a McCorsker's Flasher Wrasse from Red Coral Edmonton as well as a nice blue Crocea clam, thanks Steve. Was a little worried about the Flashers Wrasse yesterday when he was just hovering kind of stuck to the overflow. But today when I fed the tank there he was happy and eating great.

Stopped at Aqua Marine ran into Doug and Laurie (what a cute couple those two are) and wouldn't you know it but a little green brain followed me home.

Still have to put the MR1 and the Reeflo Snapper into service and pick-up my GHL Proflux 2ex controller yet plus order my new light's but it is all coming together once again.

Pictures will be coming soon as I get a new waterproof camera.

Slick Fork 01-01-2011 10:39 PM

Greg, If you are getting a Profilux you need the T5's I have and Dimm2 Power bar I have. Dimmable T5's are Frickin AWESOME!!

It's 2 (2x54watt) ballasts with waterproof endcaps and 4x 48" ice-cap reflectors. It might mean building your own rail as opposed to a fixture and mounting a couple of MH reflectors, as opposed to an enclosed fixture but the result is well worth it.

Let me know if you're interested and we can hammer out a price!

The Grizz 01-02-2011 12:02 AM

That could be interesting. I am looking at getting 2 new fixtures that have 2-250w MH and 2- 54w T5's. I was talking with Steve at RCE and he gave me a neat idea to use 2 of my existing fixture with color only bulb like actinic, Fiji purples and such to add some different color spectrums.
