Hello, I was following your eulogy thread and noticed it ended in August. Did you have any success with your issues? did you replace your lights? RO unit? This hobby is half black magic from my experience but I have had good luck with my 46g bow which I started in 2004. Biggest issue I ever had was the centre brace broke. I figure the light dried out the plastic and made it brittle (PC lighting) and it snapped. Happened to be walking by the tank and noticed it before happened - definitely a heart failure moment rushing to HomeDepo for an adjustable brace
Having had good luck I don't change much very often but am throwing around the idea of switching to 2 Kessil 150a LED lights but I have a healthy fear of algae so still unsure about that. Anyways, hope the worst of your struggles are over. I keep things simple stupid for the most part, and don't dream of fancy corals. I keep the frogspan, button poyps, mushrooms and ricordia and the easier lps as well as fish. Never had good luck with any butterfly fish so I stick to the basic blennies, pigmy angels, percs, chromis, gobies and spotted puffers. after almost 10 years in this hobby I added my first tang - a kole - last week. I had a breakout of ich about 5 years ago - I'm sure it's still in there but I don't see it (knock on wood). I use one of those aquarium pharmaceutical tap water filters and religiously do a 15g water change once a month. I think I will go with the light change and if something goes sideways I can always just go back to the PCs. Anyways, sorry for the rambling, take care, Les.
